Chapter 1. Hide and Seek

I don't remember much of my childhood. I remember seeing my mom and dad, being able to see the sun and never having to worry. I remember seeing my life so clearly, so many colors so many faces, happy smiling faces and now....all I see is black. I went blind at 14 when I was in the accident that happened. I remember seeing the dinner table and then hearing a bang and mom screaming as everything turned white, my skin burning, it was a fire! I was trapped in a fire! It was so hot and it hurt so much but all the white faded to black. Its been like that ever since. I don't know how I made it out alive but all the scars, all the burns have long since stayed. My face took a lot of damage too. I don't know what I look like but I do know people are scared of me. Anytime some one sees me walking down the street with out my mask they gulp. Anytime someone sees me with my mask they run. Although I only have bits and pieces of my childhood, I have always had my friend Jackson. He has never done me wrong. We do almost everything together and he is always happy to see me. I pull away from my thoughts to remember I still have to get dressed for my 'date' this evening. Jackson and I are heading to the lake, I may not be able to see it but I can feel it, hear it, smell it, and I can sense it. I have always been able to use electric currents like a super power. I can just sense them, so even though I am blind I can still see. It looks like blue wisps of smoke in a black room but this smoke gives off light. A rose through my eyes looks like...

And that's how I see everything.
I get everything ready when I hear a car engine suddenly pull up. I grin and walk downstairs wearing what I think is a white t-shirt, and a pair of jeans with a red flannel. I open the door for Jackson and ask, "what am I wearing?" he responds " tee, jeans, blue flannel and tenishoes." he says. I sigh knowing I failed that. I walk out shutting the door behind me and locking it. "Ready?" I ask. He nods. I know he nodded because once again I can see him...ish...

Also I heard the fabric of his clothing ruffle. Maybe he was wearing a hoodie? I wish I could tell.... I walk over to the car and open the door hopping into the passenger seat beside Jackson. "To the lake!" he said in a Batman batmobile moment. He always liked that stuff and now he made small quotes with Easter eggs...I like that about him. I like that no matter his age he's still a kid. I mean really at 23 he is pretending to be batman, I think I just died. I laugh and smile as I feel the car start to move. We hit a small bump and turn which indicates we have left the driveway. I guess I miss having parents to tell me I can't go to a party or something but there are small perks. I have full privacy at home and I can listen to music whenever and the downside to that is I have to work. I help the neighbors with small chores and they pay me depending on the amount of effort I put in. My favorite is helping miss alia to bake sweets. I get paid and sweets! I like to bake and cook its just a little more challenging blind. She helps though. She tells me what measuring spoon I have or where something is and how close I am to it. I really do appreciate that. I feel the car stop and assume its a stop light, "stop light? Sign? Gotta turn? What's goin' on?" I ask. I hear a faint chuckle, "stop light. And now we are turning right to enter the back of the park which will lead to the dirt road the lake. Wanna grab the blanket while I get the food?" he asks. I nod excitedly. His girlfriend is lucky to have him
I think to myself. I shake off the thought and soon the car sounds different. The tires made a strange but familiar noise. We were now on the dirt road. Almost there! I'm so excited to 'see' the lake. Maybe we can go swimming? Or next time we can fish! I haven't been to the lake in forever I'm just so excited!
