It was known that the males of the grand duke’s family, who inherited the blood of the Wolf God, kept only one companion by their side for the rest of their lives.

People romanticized it, saying that they only loved one woman in their entire lives, but in reality, they were able to continuously pursue the female they had chosen as their companion by using an ability called ‘imprinting’.

It was said that they could smell the scent of the woman they had imprinted on from a great distance, so even if a woman tried to run away because she didn’t like the man, there was no way to escape, and she would just give up.

This was a matter that allowed one to guess how persistent the legitimate successors of the grand duke’s family would be in order to make the woman they wanted their own.

‘But the current grand duke is a woman, and there are no more men left in the family. It’s pointless to worry about being imprinted.’

Above all, there was no reason for a successor who inherited the blood of the grand duke to work in the guild. If he was of Grand Duke Richard’s bloodline, he would be no different from the ruler of this territory.

So, it made sense to think that Edgar was a chimera who inherited a bit more ability.

The reason why the guild members were so submissive to him was because he was a man with such a sense of intimidation that he could subdue his opponent just by making eye contact.

She was a little curious about exactly what kind of position he held within the huge Black Fang Guild, but Christine didn’t intend to ruin everything by being hasty.

While she thought so, they arrived at the west side of the hideout.

Melkin, who had been walking pitifully ahead, finally relaxed and introduced her to the place.

“This is the western hideout where Mr. Edgar mainly stays.”

“It looks like a normal town.”

“That’s right. It is a space that was deliberately made to look like a village. Those who stay here receive training as guild members, but they also spend their daily lives like ordinary people. We each have our own responsibilities for the community.”

Melkin was seduced by Christine’s smile and did not realize that he was reciting information he wasn’t even asked about.

“Oh my, Mr. Melkin is so kind.”

“Wh-what? Haha… Is there anything else you’d like to know?”

“Where will I stay? I’m also curious about where Edgar is among all these buildings.”

Christine scanned the western hideout. There were so many houses and buildings like a normal village that she had no idea where she was going to stay.

“Miss Christine will be staying alone in that two-story house. Edgar is using the mansion over there as his office and personal space.”

“I see. Thank you for letting me know, Melkin.”

Christine looked around the place where she was going to stay with bright eyes and glanced around the village. But in reality, she was making a mental map of the village.

‘It would also be easier to approach Edgar if he stayed in such a scattered place than in a huge building like a castle where everyone was gathered.’

Melkin guided her to the two-story house she was staying in without even dreaming about what she was thinking.

“Thank you for the guidance, Melkin. I’ll take a look around the inside of the house on my own.”

“Alright. Then I’ll be going now.”

“Okay. I hope to see you next time. Ah, what can I do?”

“Hm… We don’t need any help with work right now, but it would be nice if you could help with meal preparation in that building. The children who are still too young to cook eat together there.”

“Alright.”

“And I-I live in that two-story house over there with other guys. The house with the red roof.”

“…?”

“Then, I’ll take my leave…!”

Melkin hurriedly left after sharing information she had never been curious about. It was a situation that Christine was quite familiar with.

She looked around the house she was going to spend about a month in. This ordinary and lonely landscape was somehow strange to her.

Since her father died, her mother has always been with her in the same space. If that wasn’t the case, there was a request that she had to complete successfully for her mother’s sake. The money for Duff’s care and other expenses did not fall from the sky.

She never thought of hating such a situation. How could she hate her mother, the person she loved the most in the world? She felt guilty just thinking about her family.

But as she stayed alone in a quiet space for the first time and looked out the window at people going about their peaceful daily lives, a thought suddenly came to her.

‘I was… feeling suffocated and tired of being exploited by Duff.’

Thinking that she was spending a month away in a strange place, Christine was worried about her mother. Even so, she felt like she had gotten away from something burdensome for a while.

While she felt a little guilty about feeling this way, she also realized that she had been so busy that she couldn’t even understand how unmanageable it was until now.

One month.

How she spent the golden time that Uncle Allen had arranged for her would determine whether she would live the rest of her life being exploited by Duff and the Golden Horseshoe Guild, or whether she would spend a happy daily life in a quiet village like this with her mother.

Christine shook off her depressed feelings and got up from her seat. Now was the time to do everything she could.
