My alarm went off at the same time that my phone started ringing. I groaned and turned the alarm off first before answering the phone.
"Mom I'm fine."
"Mom. Yes, I swear I'll call you when I get a chance."
"Okay. I love you too."
I hung up the phone.
My mom worried about me a lot. I get it, I'd worry about me too. Of course it does get annoying when she calls every morning with the same worries. She feels lonely, I know. Since I left for college, and even before then.
I grabbed my school bag from the kitchen table. I double checked my stuff, making sure I had everything before I left for school. I dug through my bag for my house key as I walked out. I turned around when I couldn't find it, and scanned the living room. I spotted it on the coffee table and snatched it up. I hurried out the door, locking it behind me.
I walked down the street towards my school, pulling my jacket closer. It was colder than yesterday. It felt nice in a strange sort of way. I sped up my pace, not wanting to be late.
I walked as quickly as I could and finally made it on campus. There were very little students lounging around the campus. Most were in class. I looked around slowly, lost in my own thoughts that I didn't see the boy running towards me. He pushed past me, dropping my school bag in the process.
I gasped in surprise and turned to see who had ran into me. The boy turned around mumbling a quick sorry and continued on his path. I looked down at my bag with my supplies scattered around it. I leaned down with a sigh. I started gathering everything up quickly and shoving it in my bag. My watch's alarm went off signaling that if I didn't hurry up I'd be late. I grabbed whatever else I could see and ran towards my class.
I ran through my class door, happy that the professor hadn't yet arrived.
I sat in an empty seat. I looked in my bag and saw the mess I had made. I pulled a leaf out of my bag. I stuck it in my notebook, not wanting to get up and throw it away in front of my classmates. They would surely think I was strange if I did. I sighed and leaned back in my seat.
I looked towards the door. Still no professor. A minute went by before someone rushed through the door. Though it still wasn't the professor, instead it was a boy with curly brown hair covering his face. I squinted my eyes, curiously trying to figure him out. I'd seen him before.
I looked down at his navy sweater and realized, he was the boy that just crashed into me. He walked to the seat next to me. Seeing as it was one of the only seats left in the classroom.
I stared at him for a bit. He looked at me after feeling my gaze.
His blue eyes made contact with mine and I blushed and looked away quickly.
Why did I do that?
"Hey?" His voice reached me. I turned to him slightly.
"Yes?" I spoke so silently I didn't hear myself say it.
"Uh, I just wanted to say I'm really sorry about earlier, I was in a rush, then I got lost, and this morning was just a mess and I'm sincerely sorry. Especially for the fact that I didn't stop to help you, I'm sorry about that."
I stared at him for a while before realizing it was my turn to say something.
"Uh, yeah, it's no problem. Don't worry about it...we've all been there."
I felt weird for talking to him. I never talked to people in any of my classes. I was the definition of introvert.
He chuckled. I looked at him weirdly. Did I say something funny?
"Yeah I just moved back here not so long ago. It's my first day in this school."
He looked at me as if he were trying to figure out a puzzle.
"Where else have I seen you?" He finally asked after making me sweat under his gaze.
The professor suddenly stepped into the room.
"Alright, ladies and gentlemen, quiet down now."
Our conversation ended there. That is until the end of class.
"So uh, wow I don't even know your name. I'm Daniel. "
"Eh Allison."
"Well, Allison, it was great meeting you. I gotta get to class." he started backing away from me.
"I'll see you when I see you." He waved once before running off to his next class.
My mind lingered on his smile. They say a smile is the key to attraction.
I shook my head. I had such ridiculous thoughts sometimes.
I grabbed my possessions and continued on to my next few classes. Once school was over I headed to the coffee shop to start on my homework, then start my shift.
