Rahul's POV
As I buttoned my shirt, ready to head to the office, Mom intercepted me in the hallway, her voice firm but affectionate.
"Oye, hero. Kidhar?? You're not going to work today," she said, leaving no room for debate. "You'll be picking up Mansi and taking her to the bridal dress showroom. She must select her lehenga today."No way, man... today is Saturday and I was planning to wrap up some office work and some after-party in the nearest club with my pals.
I sighed barely audible, but I knew there was no escaping this. Mom hadn't asked, she had practically ordered, and arguing was pointless. My plan for today was now replaced by a rather awkward errand with my future wife—a woman I hardly knew but would soon marry.
As I reached Mansi's house, my heart wasn't in it. This wedding, these rituals, all felt like a duty more than anything else. Still, I maintained my respectful demeanor, politely greeting my future in-laws with courtesy and formality because that is what I have been taught. But then, something unexpected caught my eye—a sight that made me smirk involuntarily.
Mansi, hair disheveled and having just woken up, appeared at the top of the staircase.Ek photo to banti hai. I secretly fished out my phone and took a snap of her. Her hair tumbled in unruly waves around her face as she hastily gathered them into a clip while walking toward the drawing room. The hurried, sleepy grace she carried made me pause, a sudden lightness in my chest.
"Un anjaane palon mein kuch kho gaya main,
Uski zulfon mein kahin uljha reh gaya main,
Jaane kya baat hai uske chehre ki tasveer mein,
Woh ghul rahi hai bas yun hi mere dil ki lakeer mein..."(In those fleeting moments, I lost a part of me,
Entangled in her hair's mystery, unable to be free.
There's something about the portrait of her face,
Unknowingly, she's drawing lines on my heart's empty space...)WHAT. THE. F**k........................YE KYA BAKWAAS KAR RHA HU MAIN..🤨😨
As soon as I realize what I just said, I could snap back, surprised and maybe a little annoyed at myself for getting so lost in her presence.
I shook my head slightly, amused, as she came closer, still struggling with her rogue hair strands. For a moment, I forgot the tension between us, caught in the simplicity of her messy appearance. Mesmerizing, almost.
Her eyes quickly scanned me from head to toe, checking me out and noticing that my smile had widened."Nice look," I quipped, breaking the silence, a smirk playing on my lips.Mansi, unfazed, shot me a sarcastic glance as she finally secured her hair. "I didn't know I was having royal company this early. Should've rolled out the red carpet."I chuckled. "Don't worry. I'm not that special."
"Good. Saves me the trouble," she shot back, a spark in her eyes, already ready to match his sarcastic tone.I cleared my throat, breaking the banter. "Chalo, ready ho jao. Lehenga shopping ke liye jaana hai."Mansi blinked at me, her brows slightly furrowed. "Lehenga shopping ke liye jaana hai," she mimicked in a hushed voice, rolling her eyes dramatically, making sure I didn't notice. But unknown to her, I had caught her little act in the reflection of the mirror on the wall. Amused, my lips twitched into a faint smile, though I kept quiet, deciding to enjoy the moment.Within half an hour she was back in blue jeans and a dark green kurti.
I was almost finished having the juice that was being served.Did some casual talks with Dadi. Taiji's eyes twinkled as she offered me snacks.Mansi stood there, with a dry expression. She crossed her arms, muttering under her breath, "If both of you are done showering love on him, Can we go?" Her annoyance deepened as she watched them fuss over him.I, sensing her irritation, glanced over at her with a teasing look. I could easily read her expressions.
"Shall we go, Mansi?" I asked and we headed towards my car.............................................................................
We stepped into the lavish bridal showroom, the gleaming chandeliers casting a soft glow on the rows of intricately designed lehengas. Her eyes wandered from one outfit to another, but no matter how exquisite the designs were, none seemed to capture her attention. I was confused about what exactly is she looking for.
I witnessed her facial expressions and understood that she might be facing a problem in deciding.
As She hesitated before yet another lehenga, I, observing her indecision, quietly stepped forward. My brow furrowed in thought as I carefully studied the racks. Then, after a moment of contemplation, I picked out a lehenga, its soft hues shimmering under the showroom lights. Without a word, I handed it to Mansi and simply said, "Try this one."Surprised by my choice, she looked at me curiously and I was partly expecting her to throw one of her infamous sarcastic comments but I was calm and confident and maybe that made her trust my selection.
