Let Me Die Alone

When my end has arrived
Do not sit there and watch me die.
Do not whisper sweet memories in my ear
Or tell me how much you love me.
Say those things to me now
Not then.
It will only make it harder
For the both of us.

Do not hold my hands
That are but a frail shadow
Of what they were.
Do not look at my horrible face
So pale and yellow in death.
Do not sit beside my bed
Among the tubes and gasping breaths,
I do not want that to be
What you see later when you think of me.

Do not surround me
With all my favorite things
And please leave the windows shut
The curtains drawn.
Do not group around me, be with me
All the people I love and will come to love.
If I do not die alone
I will not die peacefully.
But shall leave this world
Filled with anguish and despair
Fighting desperately to stay.
