I thought I died. It was strange—one moment, I felt the jarring impact, and the next, there was nothing but darkness. Confusion wrapped around me like a thick fog. I could hear muffled voices, faint and distant, as if they were shouting from underwater.
"Someone call for help!" one voice yelled. Panic laced through the chaos, but I couldn't respond. I tried to open my eyes, to push through the darkness that felt so heavy, but every attempt only pulled me deeper into the void. The sounds faded, replaced by an eerie silence that engulfed me.
Then, just as suddenly as it had slipped away, I was jolted awake. Blinking against the brightness, I found myself in a luxurious room, sunlight streaming through tall windows and illuminating exquisite furnishings. My heart raced as I took in the opulence around me—silk curtains, a grand chandelier, and rich tapestries. It felt like a dream, one I couldn't quite grasp.
I tried to remember how I got here, but all I could recall was the truck, the terrifying moment of impact. My mind was a blank canvas beyond that. Panic rose again as I thought about the child I had saved. Did they make it? Was I really gone?
With determination, I pushed myself up on the plush bed, my limbs feeling heavy and foreign. The last remnants of pain pulsed through my body, reminding me of the accident. What happened to me? Was I... alive? I needed to find out.
I swung my legs over the side of the bed and stood up, wobbling for a moment before finding my balance. As I looked around, my breath caught in my throat. The room was undeniably medieval in style—stone walls, intricate woodwork, and ornate furnishings that seemed pulled from a storybook.
A sudden thought struck me, both thrilling and terrifying: Maybe I was reincarnated. I couldn't shake the idea as I took a hesitant step forward. The reality of it felt surreal, almost impossible. Had I truly left my old life behind?
I moved toward the window, peering out at a sprawling landscape filled with lush greenery and distant hills. There was no sign of modernity, no cars or buildings. The world outside felt alive, vibrant, yet foreign. Questions swirled in my mind like a tempest: How had I ended up here? Was I meant for something more in this new life?
As I took in the sights, I realized I needed to see myself—truly see who I had become. I scanned the room for a mirror, and after a moment, I spotted a gilded one hanging on the wall. With a flutter of anxiety, I approached it.
When I finally looked into the glass, shock washed over me. The reflection staring back was that of a child, perhaps eleven years old. My features were delicate and youthful, with long, flowing hair that framed a face that seemed sculpted by the hands of an artist. My skin glowed with a radiant softness, and my eyes sparkled like gemstones, deep and inviting. High cheekbones and full lips gave me an air of innocent beauty that was both enchanting and bewildering.
I was beautiful—radiantly so, yet I looked so young. The realization hit me hard, and I gasped, unable to contain my surprise. "Oh my God!" I shouted, startled by my own voice.
In an instant, the door swung open, and a knight stepped into the room, his armor gleaming in the sunlight. He looked alarmed, his brows furrowing as he took in my startled expression. "Are you okay?" he asked, his voice steady but concerned.
I blinked, trying to gather my thoughts. "Who are you?" I managed to ask, my heart still racing.
"The duke is on his way," he replied, his tone both urgent and calm. "I was sent to check on you. You... you gave us quite a scare."
I felt a rush of emotions—confusion, fear, and a flicker of hope. What had I gotten myself into? As the knight continued to watch me with a mix of concern and curiosity, I realized that the answers I sought were about to unfold, and my new life was only just beginning.
