As we finally reached the place, Harumi unlocked the door, and I followed him inside, taking in the quiet vibe of his place. It was neat and organized, very "Harumi"—not a single thing out of place.
"Make yourself home" he said, though he looked a bit awkward, like he wasn't used to having people over.
I dropped my bag near the couch and stretched out. "So, this is where the magic happens, huh? I was expecting, I dunno...a room full of mysterious artifacts or something."
He shot me a dry look. "It's a study session, not a treasure hunt." I chuckled, "Fine, fine. Teach me your wise ways, Master Haru."
He rolled his eyes, looking both annoyed and embarrassed. "Don't call me that."
"Sure thing, Master Haru" I teased, a smirk tugging at the corners of my lips as I watched him sigh and head to the kitchen.
I shrugged off my jacket, tossing it onto the arm of the couch, then loosened my tie and leaned back, letting out a quiet sigh. Closing my eyes for just a second, I felt the tiredness from the day catching up with me. But before I could sink into the couch entirely, I heard a small clink of glasses.
I opened my eyes to see Harumi coming out of the kitchen, balancing a tray loaded with snacks and juice, wearing an apron with his hair tied up in a loose ponytail. I blinked in surprise, and for a second, he paused, noticing my stare. His cheeks turned a faint pink as he looked down, then quickly moved to set the tray on the coffee table.
"Uh... snacks." he mumbled, almost like he was talking to the tray instead of me.
"Everything okay?" I asked, leaning forward with a smirk, catching that rare flustered expression on his face.
He cleared his throat, avoiding my eyes as he reached for the stack of books beside the tray. "Y-yeah. Let's just... focus on studying, okay?"
I couldn't help but chuckle a little. "Right, straight to the books, then."
Harumi shot me a playful glare. "You're the one who asked for help, remember? Try not to get distracted."
"Me? Distracted?" I picked up a chip from the tray, popping it into my mouth with an exaggerated look of innocence. "Never."
He rolled his eyes, finally cracking a small smile as he took a seat next to me. "Sure, whatever you say. But if you don't remember at least half of what I teach you today, we're doing this all over again tomorrow."
"Sounds like a challenge"I said, grabbing another chip.
Harumi sighed, shaking his head. But there was a faint smile on his face as he settled in beside me, and somehow, studying didn't feel like such a chore anymore.
We finally managed to get through a few pages of the textbook, though Harumi kept glancing at the now almost-empty snack tray with mild annoyance. He sighed, closing the book with a firm pat and giving me a look.
"Alright, we're done with the basics," he announced, sounding both exhausted and relieved. "But if you don't pass the test tomorrow, it's definitely not my fault."
I chuckled, leaning back on the couch. "Hey, don't underestimate my incredible learning ability, especially with quality snacks like these as motivation."
Harumi just shook his head, trying to look annoyed, but I caught a hint of a smile breaking through. "Motivation, huh?" He muttered, standing up and stretching. "Maybe next time, I'll just bring vegetables to keep you focused."
