It was beautiful. Everywhere she looked, there was whiteness, as if she had suddenly found herself in a snow kingdom.
At exactly nine in the morning, just as they had planned, Henry arrived in an SUV with a trailer carrying snowmobile. Emily took a deep breath of the crisp air and reminded herself that she needed this, that she was ready to step out of her daily routine and away from her problems.
At the base of the hill, Henry expertly unloaded the snowmobile and looked at Emily with a spark in his eyes. It was clear that he did this often and was skilled at it, and she tried to share in his enthusiasm.
"From here, we'll take the snowmobile to the cabin. The trails are amazing!" he said excitedly. "Ready for the ride?" he asked with a grin, handing her a helmet.
Emily nodded. She climbed onto the snowmobile behind him, moving as if she did this every day.
As they rode up the hill, the wind carried the scent of fresh snow and pine trees. Emily felt a rush of adrenaline as the snowmobile climbed the steep trail, her heart beating a little faster. She enjoyed every moment, forgetting about all the worries that had been troubling her.
Henry navigated the snowmobile with skill, turning through the bends as they zipped through the snow-covered landscape. The trees flew past them like in a movie, and every jump the snowmobile made was met with Emily's exclamation and Henry's laughter.
With every meter gained, nature opened up and welcomed them into its embrace.
"Look!" Henry shouted as they approached the cabin.
When they finally slowed and stopped in front of the cabin's door, Emily climbed off the snowmobile, removed her helmet, and took a deep breath of the cold air. Her eyes sparkled with excitement.
"This place is amazing!" she said with delight as they both got off the snowmobile. It had been a while since she had come to the hill, caught up in everyday obligations, and now she felt how much she needed this. The view from the top was breathtaking.
"That was... incredible," she said, catching her breath. "Thank you for bringing me here. I didn't realize how much I needed this, but it was perfect."
Henry took off his helmet, ran his fingers through his hair, and smiled. "I'm glad you liked it. I knew a little adrenaline and fresh air would do you good."
The roof of the small wooden cabin was covered in snow. Henry opened the door, and they both stepped inside. Emily was enchanted by the cabin's rustic look and wooden furniture.
A large fireplace dominated the room, so Henry took some firewood from the box next to it. He started stacking the logs in the fireplace to light a fire.
Emily sat in a wooden chair and watched the handsome, skillful man. She wondered what she felt for him and if she could fall in love. She told herself it was too soon to think about that and that she was here just to enjoy herself with no expectations.
When the fire crackled to life, warmth and light quickly spread through the room. Henry grinned with satisfaction as the flames danced, casting shadows on the wooden walls.
"We'll warm up in no time," he said cheerfully.
Emily moved closer to the fireplace. She felt comfortable as her hands warmed. The heat quickly filled the cabin, creating a cozy atmosphere.
Henry opened the backpack he had brought and, to Emily's surprise, pulled out supplies for a small feast.
The table was soon set with two sandwiches, a plastic container of grapes, and Henry poured steaming ginger tea from a thermos. The aroma rose from the cups, filling the air with the scent of ginger.
Emily took a sip of the hot tea. "This is just what I needed," she said with a smile. "I feel like I've escaped to another world."
"That was the plan," Henry replied, grabbing one of the sandwiches. "Sometimes the best thing to do is just escape from everyday life, even if only for a little while. I always love coming up here in winter; it feels like there's nothing else but the snow and this place."
Emily picked up a grape and looked at the fireplace, where the flames danced in their peculiar rhythm.
"I didn't even realize how much I needed this," she admitted. "The last few months have been so chaotic."
Henry laughed, taking a sip of tea. "Sometimes you just have to enjoy the moment, no matter how complicated life gets."
Emily nodded, feeling herself relax. "Maybe you're right. This is exactly what I needed - a chance to not think too much, just to be here, right now."
Henry ran a hand through his hair and raised his cup for a toast. "Here's to the present and a future without chaos."
Emily lifted her cup and joined in. "To a future without chaos," she said, smiling.
After finishing their snack, Henry and Emily put on their gloves and jackets, ready for another snowmobile ride. As they stepped out of the cabin, the cold mountain air greeted them.
Henry checked the snowmobile and turned to Emily. "Ready for another round?" he asked with a grin.
"Absolutely," she said eagerly, putting on her helmet.
She climbed onto the snowmobile behind Henry, holding tightly around his waist. The snowmobile roared to life with a deep, powerful sound. When Henry hit the gas, it sped off, leaving a trail in the snow behind them.
Henry expertly steered the snowmobile, taking it down steep slopes and around turns with ease.
"Not bad, huh?" Henry shouted, glancing back to see her expression.
"It's amazing!" Emily shouted back, making sure he could hear her.
Henry laughed and sped up a little more, guiding them along a trail that wound through a thick pine forest. The trees were covered with a heavy layer of snow, and the shadows on the trail created a feeling like they were in some kind of magical winter tunnel.
As they descended the steep slope, the snowmobile bounced, and Emily felt a surge of excitement as they were airborne for a few seconds before landing back on solid ground.
Approaching the final slope, Henry accelerated even more, letting out a shout of excitement as the snowmobile practically flew over the snow. Emily's heart raced, and she gripped him tighter, feeling every jolt as they sped downhill.
It all happened very quickly. In an instant, as they crossed an icy patch, the snowmobile began to skid out of control. Henry tried to correct it, but a sudden movement caused the back end to fishtail too far to the side.
The snowmobile spun, flipped onto its side, and Emily and Henry were thrown into the snow. Emily felt herself soaring through the air, twisting several times before landing. The soft white surface cushioned her fall, but the shock and cold were unavoidable.
She didn't know how long she lay there, dazed, but when she finally came to her senses, Emily slowly lifted her head, took off her helmet, and called out for Henry. There was no response.
