special chapter: a new addition

a/n: thank you everyone for your patience this past month. I MISSED Y'ALL TT after recovering from covid i was immediately launched into midterms and have been struggling academically since, so please forgive me for the lack of updates. Although this chapter was meant to be a 1k reads special, it is now 2k special. Also, it's much longer than usual so I hope you enjoy. I appreciate all of you always and am forever grateful we've come this far :)

"A cat?"

"Why not? A cat is a perfect joint anniversary present," Y/N exclaims, "We've both been wanting one for a while and now that we're both not as busy, it's the perfect time."

Kenma pondered the idea for a bit. A cat was a big commitment and not something they could rush into on a whim. However, he does agree that the timing is perfect. They are much more settled into the house and have plenty of space for a new pet. Y/N finished school and is home much more often and he doesn't have as many projects he's taking on at the moment. Not to mention, they both have been wanting a cat for years.

"Ok."   

"Ok? Ok! You mean it?" Y/N asks excitedly.

"You're right, now is the perfect time," he says reassuringly whilst nodding his head, "We'll be busier in the next few months and then we'll have to wait longer."

"Let's plan it out tonight and start getting things tomorrow?" Y/N suggests, already pulling out her computer to make lists of things they need and locating nearby shelters.

Kenma laughs at his girlfriend's eagerness and quickly agrees with her suggestion.

With that they spent the night researching everything they needed to get when they stop at the pet store. Beds, scratchers, a tree, toys, litterbox, and food bowls. Most importantly, they need to make another stop in the morning to get items to cat-proof the house.

The couple woke up bright and early in order to clean their house. They paid special attention to their desk set-ups to tuck away their wires and check whether or not they would need to get cable protectors. They cleared up the kitchen, making sure the counters were sparse of anything that could be knocked or broken. The couple also made note to buy child locks for their cabinets, not wanting a curious cat to get into the cleaning supplies and ingest something harmful.

"All done?"

"Counters cleared, breakable objects hidden away, cords tidied," Y/N lists off, "Anything else?"

"I had to get rid of the tulips, but we can pick up some new flowers while we get the child locks and cable protectors," Kenma adds, "Other than that, we should be good to go."

"Then let's head out!" Y/N excitedly runs to grab the car keys before running back to grab Kenma's arm to hurry him towards the car.

At the store, the couple was having a hard time deciding between all the different necessities. Or more like Y/N was having a hard time and Kenma was agreeing with whatever options she presented him. Barely ten minutes in their cart had already accumulated four different beds and a plethora of new toys. However, when it came to the cat tree, they agreed the car could only fit one.

"Ken, help me choose," Y/N says, "I'm between these two"

She points to two very different displays. One is a colorful tower that resembles flowers but is on the smaller side, the other is large but minimalistic.

The man looks over the two cat trees and takes a moment to analyze both before giving his opinion.

"The flower one suits us better. Let's get that one."
