꧁She's gone꧂
After Isaac reassured Bryce he was going to be okay about five times she went home. She opened the door to see her brother on the couch."Hey B, how was school?" He asked gently.
"Good I guess, kinda hectic but fine. How was work." She said tiredly.
"Pretty good I think I actually like this job." He said, knowing Xander's previous experiences Bryce was glad to hear that.
"That's good." She said walking into the kitchen.
After a bit of silence he spoke up. "So who's the guy you snuck in and out of the house all summer."
Bryce froze slowly turning to face Xander who was standing there with a very amused expression.
"You..." Bryce said trying to avoid talking about it.
"I saw him walking out of the bathroom a couple of days ago, we made awkward eye contact and then he ran out of the house. Which does explain the random noises in the middle of the night." He explained with a smirk on his face.
"Yeah, that's Isaac." She said smiling.
"Lahey?" Bryce nodded. "I went to school with his older brother." Xander told her.
"Really?" She asked the older sibling.
"Yeah he was a good kid, hopefully that Isaac is too. I won't hesitate to bash his head in if he hurts you." He dead pans.
"Aww that's the sweetest thing you've said to me since we moved." She said holding her hand to her heart.
"I'm not joking." He stares at her.
"Oh I know. You're a psycho." She said completely serious.
"Love you idiot." He says walking to his room.
"Love you dickwad." She said with a smile.
When she heard the door to Xander's room close she let out a content sigh. It was rare he actually showed some kind of emotion. So when he did she'd learned to appreciate it. Bryce sat down thinking back to the times she'd slept in her brother's bed as a kid cause her mom was yelling again. Or when she'd be cleaning up late at night after her mom had drank again and Xander came down to help. Whenever her mother didn't step up as a parent she knew Xander would always be there to comfort her.
