Some people say High School is the best time of your life, but this story is all about what came after.

Let me kick off by saying that I've been traveling since I was 3 months old. My parents are diplomats, so I'm used to moving every four or five years. By 18 I was ready to set down some roots and start university in my native country: Cuba.

I went to High School in Honduras and it wasn't necessarily bad. I met a lot of cool people and got to experience the type of movie theaters, malls and restaurants that Cubans do not have access to. However, I was missing excitement, drama, events worthy of journaling about. As the saying goes: "Be careful what you wish for".

The thing I craved the most back in 2018, the year my story begins, was male attention. I know it sounds pathetic, but after feeling invisible for almost two decades, it was almost impossible not to yearn for it. I went through a long phase of feeling ugly, fat and unlikeable when I was 16 or 17. I swear I thought no one would ever like me or want to date me. Not to pinpoint the obvious but I was a virgin, something I viewed as a big issue that needed to be fixed immediately.

I started college in September 2018, at the Faculty of Foreign Languages. I was disappointed when I realized there were only two guys in my classroom, since one was gay and the other one I didn't find attractive. Not a very good start.

I made some friends the first day but never really bonded with any of them until late October, almost two months after school started. That's when I started hanging out with Alexa.

Alexa had friends from preschool, secondary and high school. She was a girl everyone seemed to like and pay attention to. She wasn't necessarily popular but she definitely wasn't invisible. The night we became friends we were both drunk and acting stupid. I guess that night is really where it all began.
