The forest fell silent as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long, sinister shadows across the tangled undergrowth. The air was thick with the scent of decay, and the distant, mournful cries of nocturnal creatures echoed through the trees. The full moon hung low in the sky, its eerie silver glow reflecting off the damp leaves and slick moss. Emma, Ryu, and Lilly stood together in the clearing, ready for a confrontation they could scarcely hope to survive.

Damagnus was ensnared in Vaelis's dark magic, the shadows coiling around him like living serpents, trapping him in an impenetrable cage of darkness. Amelia lay unconscious on the icy stretcher she had crafted, her breaths shallow and uneven. They had no choice but to face Vaelis alone.

Vaelis stood in the center of the clearing, his malevolent aura tainting the air. His eyes glowed with cold, otherworldly light, and his pale blue hair rippled like dark flames in the moonlight. He raised his staff, crackling with dark energy, and surveyed his adversaries with a cruel smile.

"So, you've decided to die together," Vaelis sneered, his voice a chilling whisper that seemed to come from all directions. "How noble. But do you truly believe you can overcome me? I am the darkness, and you are merely children lost in the woods."

"We don't have a choice," Emma said, her voice steady despite the fear gnawing at her insides. "We'll do whatever it takes to stop you."

Vaelis's smile twisted into something crueler. "Then let's see what your defiance is worth."

With a flick of his wrist, Vaelis unleashed a wave of shadowy tendrils, dark as night and cold as death, surging toward them. Emma leaped aside, her heart pounding, as the magic scorched the earth where she'd stood moments before. Ryu, his eyes glowing with draconic fire, retaliated with a blast of searing heat. But Vaelis merely laughed, his form slipping through the shadows with unsettling ease.

"Watch out!" Lilly's voice rang out, a thin thread of hope in the encroaching darkness. Pale and shaky, she summoned her power over plants, commanding vines to erupt from the ground and ensnare Vaelis. For a moment, the dark elf was caught, his body twisting in the grip of nature's fury.

But it was only a moment. Vaelis wrenched himself free with a burst of dark magic, the vines withering to ash in his grasp. His laughter echoed through the clearing like a death knell.

Ryu's next attack was a surge of dragon fire, aimed directly at Vaelis. The flames roared and crackled, lighting up the clearing in a blaze of orange and red. But Vaelis raised his staff, and a shield of dark energy absorbed the fire, leaving him untouched.

Emma dashed forward, her mind racing with desperation. She launched a barrage of spells, each one a desperate attempt to break through Vaelis's defenses. But the dark elf merely waved his hand, dissolving her magic like smoke.

"Persistent little gnats," Vaelis sneered, his voice dripping with disdain. "But persistence only delays the inevitable. You will die here, under the light of the full moon, and Lavalia will end with you."

The ground trembled as Vaelis summoned a torrent of shadowy flames, dark and twisted as they surged toward Emma and Ryu. Emma raised a barrier, deflecting some of the attack, but the force of the blast sent her sprawling to the ground, gasping for air.

"Emma!" Ryu shouted, but he had no time to help, as Vaelis sent another wave of shadowy energy his way. Ryu dodged it, barely escaping the dark magic that scorched the earth beneath him.

"Damn it!" Lilly cried, her control over the plants faltering as the shadows closed in. She summoned the last of her strength, trying to shield her friends with a thick wall of vines. But Vaelis's magic was relentless, tearing through her defenses with cruel ease.
