"You're Funny Fulton."
Ava was fuming in the locker room but she didn't show it. Ava was the oldest on the team and knew they all looked up to her and she had some hope for this new coach and didn't want to blow it for everyone. So she calmly changed and picked up her hockey gear.
"Have fun on your date with fulton." Connie said in Ava's ear on the way out of the locker room. Ava rolled her eyes and walked out of the locker room.Ava was so busy thinking about the game she almost walked right past the boy waiting for her on the bench outside the rink. But she stopped herself and turned to look at Fulton Reed.
"Hey thanks for coming to watch I know we didn't win but it was cool you came. " Ava said as the two started walking toward the diner.
" Yeah I mean i know you guys didn't win but you did really well the way you scored within 10 seconds of the game starting was awesome!" Fulton said with a small blush on his cheeks.
" Looks like I've got a super fan." Ava giggled with a small blush on her cheeks as well no one had ever praised her abilities like that.
"I mean hey, someone as good as you deserves one thats for sure." Fulton said as he kicked a rock on the sidewalk.
"Come on Fulton I saw you shooting in the alley you could have your vey own super fan if you played, You would be one of the best scorers in the league if you played. Plus you would see me more often which would just make my number one fan so happy. " Ava smiled when Fulton opened the door to the diner and held it open for her. Fulton just smirked as they walked into the diner because he knew this "number one fan" thing wasn't going to go away anytime soon and he was okay with that because it was partly true. The two teens walked up to the counter and took a seat on the barstools in front of it. Charlies Mom who worked at the dinner walked up to them.
"What can I get- oh hey Ava who is this young man." Charlies Mom asked the girl pleasantly surprised to see Ava hanging out with someone other than the ducks.
" Casey This is my friend Fulton Reed." Ava responded.
" Well it is nice to met you Fulton, Im Casey Charlie Conways Mom, and practically this ones, which reminds me, Ava your staying at ours these next few weeks right?" Casey continued.
"Yeah I will, and we will take two burgers and fries please, Thanks Casey." Ava was glad the encounter was over. Fulton broke the silence
"What did she mean practically this one's mom too? I don't want to intrude but i was just wondering." Fulton asked cautiously not wanting to touch a nerve.
" No your fine, My dad isn't really around that much he goes on so called business trips for weeks on end, and the Conways live on the floor above us and me and Charlie have been friends forever. So whenever my dad leaves I stay at their house so I'm there a lot but I love them and their family." Ava responded. Fulton just looked at the girls as she played with the sleeve of her sweatshirt. He was amazed that a girl that seemed to have it all together had such a difficult home life.
" Thanks for telling me I didn't know." Fulton didn't exactly know what to say to the girl so he changed the subject and just talked about hockey and how she got to be in the ducks. After a few hours of talking at the diner the duo decided to walk around the park.
" You're telling me you have never even tried to skate I mean your shot is amazing and it's so easy to learn how to skate." Ava told Fulton as they walked past the fountain in the middle of the park at night.
" Yeah but no coach has ever cared enough to teach me how, I mean they all think my shots good but cant see past the fact I cant skate, the other kids on the teams tell them all the rumors about colleges and football."
Fulton responded as they turned the corner of the street Ava lived on.
" Well maybe if our coach gets better you could join out team, He isn't the best right now but i have hope for him everyone on the team says I'm to good for the ducks and that coaches only want me on the team but this coach yells at all of us so maybe he's okay." Ava ranted about the new coach. For a little bit Ava and Fulton walked silently but the silence was comfortable for both of them. The night was fun for both of the teens. Ava thought about how Connie kept calling it the night a date and Ava thought if dates with fulton were like this she wouldn't mind she liked talking to Fulton. And he liked listening to her. Once they neared her apartment Fulton turned to look at the girl.
" Well I had fun tonight and I'll think abut your offer if your coach gets better tell me I might have to learn to skate."
"Alright Fulton I'll hold you to that, Want to hang oit again after the next game i could watch your shot in the alley maybe you could teach me how to shoot like you." Ava just kept asking him to hang out the effect this kid had on her just made her want to keep talking to him.
"Yeah sounds good, see you then." and with that fulton walked away smiling ear to ear and little did he know so did Ava.(Lyla Yaps)
