*This is my first fanfic so sorry for any mistakes and shit... Happy reading! : )

Y/n awoke in the bed of her new home, a home she'd inherited from her grandfather in Pelican Town, Stardew Valley. She got out of bed and changed into blue jeans and a button-up shirt. Anxious and unsure what to do, she reread the letter from her grandpa, the very letter that'd prompted her to move to this town which she feared she might regret.

If you're reading this, you must be in dire need of a change. The same thing happened to me, long ago. I'd lost sight of what mattered most in life... real connections with other people and nature. So I dropped everything and moved to the place I truly belong.

The words returned Y/n her confidence she'd apparently possessed when she uprooted her city life to move to a small countryside town. She slipped on her brown boots that she'd purchased right before moving onto the farm so they were still stiff and uncomfortable and laced them up tightly. She tucked the note into her pocket as a good luck charm of sorts and opened the front door.

Upon exiting the quaint and aging farmhouse, a rush of fresh morning air filled Y/n's lungs. The air was refreshing compared to the polluted air of Zuzu City. She stepped off her porch and looked around the overgrown land, land that was all hers, an exciting but overwhelming thought. She decided that she'd head into town and meet some of the villagers in her new town and get farm supplies.

She made her way a short way through the woods on a well-worn dirt path until she reached a cobblestone pathway that led into the town. She walked through the small town, across the cobblestone walk. She gazed at the clear blue spring sky, the businesses in quaint little buildings, the people friendly and close-knit.

As Y/n wandered and looked around, somewhat confused, an elderly woman approached her. Her hair was up in a snow-white bun and she had a smile that seemed to permanently remain on her face, evident by the lines etched into her features.

"Why, hello and welcome to our little community, dear! My name is Evelyn but you can call me 'Granny' if you like," The red-dressed old woman said, her voice breathy but kindly and sincere. Y/n offered a smile in return.

"Thank you, Evelyn. My name is Y/n. Do you happen to know where I can purchase seeds?" Y/n asked. Evelyn paused for a moment in thought. Before she could reply, a tall young man with broad shoulders jogged over, calling as he came.

"Granny!" Evelyn slowly turned to the voice, her face breaking into an even bigger smile. The man stopped before Evelyn but looked directly over her and directly at Y/n. He grinned wolfishly.

"Hey, you're the new girl, huh? I think we're going to get along great. I'm Alex," He said with a wink that made Y/n cringe. She pressed her lips together in an odd smile and nodded.

"Thank you?" She said to the cocky fellow that she certainly did not feel any gratitude towards. She took Evelyn's hand and began to guide her away, not before turning back to Y/n.

"So, I'll see you around. C'mon, grandma," He said as he walked away. Y/n wasn't sure what to make of the interaction and was slightly perturbed that she still wasn't sure where to find seeds or– any farm supplies for that matter. Y/n circled the town square again and cut through a poorly placed cemetery. She came out the other side under a large tree, continuing past it but she stopped in front of a girl with astonishing orange hair in a knot at the nape of her neck.

Y/n cleared her throat, in an effort to startle the girl hopefully less when she spoke.

"Hi," Y/n started quietly, "I'm Y/n and I just was uh– wondering something?"

"Oh... Hello! I'm Penny... How can I help you?" Penny asked shyly, a slight smile on her lips.

"Do you know where I can buy seeds?" Y/n asked nervously. Penny nodded,

"Sure, Pierre's General Store. It's the building next to the building with the big red cross. You can't miss it..." Y/n's face reddened at that, was she blind?

"Right, sure, thanks, bye!" Y/n scurried away, off to find Pierre's General Store which she'd definitely seen but somehow decided not to check out. She circled back to the building that she had passed twice now and looked up at the sign clearly reading "Pierre's General Store".

Beside the front door was a large bulletin board riddled with various posters and signs, the most prominent of which was a help board and calendar marking town events and... birthdays? Y/n noted both for future reference then turned to the doors and pushed them open, entering the store.
