I forgot how much I loved Lucy, and have decided to continue her story. I'm getting back on the writing train!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~It has been three days since Lucy and Taron escaped the horrible scum formally known as the Captain. Much to Lucy's happiness, Taron and Lucy had been getting better at communicating through sign language.
"Show me again," Taron says, squinting down at Lucy.
Lucy moves her arms slowly, "This means 'good night '."
Taron found that putting Lucy on a sturdy branch at his eye level was easier than her on the ground or in his hand when learning the odd hand language. He leans back and copies the motion, causing Lucy to smile and clap softly for him.
He likes it when she claps for him.
They have been traveling through the woods for three days, trying to find the place called 'home'.
'Home' was a very odd concept for the two friends. Both had been taken from their old ones and were forced into a shitty one.
For most, 'home' meant a place of safety. A place where one can relax and be themselves. A place of comfort and privacy.
The two forgot what that felt like.
They were on a hunt for a place they would be comfortable settling down. A place large enough to fit Taron, but safe for Lucy and close to resources were hard to come by.
"Show me another one," Taron said, watching Lucy intently.
Lucy takes a moment to ponder before slowly moving her hands.
"What does that mean?"
"It means 'help'," she responds in her head.
Taron frowns, "I hope you don't use that often."
Lucy smiles softly, "I probably will. Especially if I'm living with you."
"What do you mean?"
"What if I need help getting from one place to another? Or what if I need your help reaching things?"
Taron hums, pondering the scenarios, "I thought that would be used in only bad situations."
Lucy shakes her head, "It can be used for little things."
"Alright. Show me again."
She nods and does the motion again, this time having Taron repeat it. She was glad that he was willing to learn how to sign and she was thankful for this odd mind-communication thing.
She still didn't quite understand how it worked, though Taron explained it, she was grateful nonetheless.
Taron smiles down at his little friend. They are talking more, and he understands how he was wrong about wanting to keep her. She is smart, kind, and very patient. She also has a quick wit and a sharp mind. She was her own person, just like he was.
They were two individuals who wanted to find a place called home.
The sun was starting to set, painting the sky in golden orange. Taron sighs and stretches his back, "We will stay here for the night."
Lucy nods, signing a quick 'Okay' to him.
Taron gently scooped up Lucy from the tree and set her back on the ground. He lays down on the ground next to her, smiling down at his little friend.
"Good night, Lucy," he says while also signing.
Lucy beams up at him and signs 'good night' as well before laying down next to his head. She is happy that he didn't force her to sleep on his chest like the first night and that he was content sleeping next to her.
