Bucky A/U - Retired military turned Baseball coach Bucky...it's a good look on him. 😉

Summary: You're newly divorced with a teenage son who's playing AAA Baseball this season. The team has a new coach who's took notice of you. What could go wrong when your ex and his new assistant come by the games making you feel uncomfortable?

Content warnings: Language, slightly more mature/older reader, mentions of being cheated on, little adult drinking, reader is  slightly insecure but strong, slight 'touch her and die vibes', little violence if you squint, fluff.

"Bye mom, I'll see you after practise!" your son Liam called to you.

"Wait, hold up. Do you have your water bottle?"

"Yeah!"

"Full this time?"

Your son huffed out a breath at you like a little annoyed dragon.

"You're hoodie? It's cooler out there."

"Ugh, yes mom!" He grumbled to you.

"I'm just making sure. I don't need another SOS text from you saying you forgot something...again..." You playfully rolled your eyes at your sometimes forgetful son.

"I got everything mom. Dom's mom is here to drive me."

He grabbed his bag and leaned down to kiss your cheek.

"Fine. Have a good practise and remind Dom's mom I'll drive you both to the game next week."

You smiled at your son's back, but he waved to you over his shoulder. He was shoving his bag in the back of the SUV and Dom's mom waved to you from her driver's seat. You locked the door and sighed, rubbing your fingers over your eyes.

"You got this. It's a new year, new you, new everything" you repeated your new mantra to yourself. You wandered over to the kitchen and grabbed a mug to make yourself some tea. When the mug was ready, you took it and sat out in your new front porch, one of the main reasons why you bought the house in the first place.

You are a flight attendant and on one of your jobs, you were the standby crew, but they didn't need you for the final flight, so you left the airport and headed home early, only to find your jackass of a husband in your bed with his perky new assistant.

Needless to say, that ended, you now have a new home for you and your son, and you're starting over again. Not something you pictured happening 15 years ago when you said, 'I do', but life has a way of kicking you in the balls when you least expect it.

The divorce was finalized in the spring, so you bought a new place for yourself and Liam, packed up your things from your old house, got Liam settled in his new room, and said goodbye to your ex with a giant middle finger while the movers sped away and that was that.

Now, in your new place with new neighbours and new everything, you are hoping and praying your son adjusts to the new routine. Thankfully you have full custody, and you don't have to share him with his idiot of a father.

This is his first year of high school and you want to make sure his home life is stable for him since everything he's ever known went up in smoke. Luckily, you were still in the same school district and Liam was still going to be with his friends as he transitions into high school, so you were happy about that. He also made the baseball team, and he was excited, something he had been wanting to do for a long time.

The team got a new coach this year, so you were happy the old crusty one you heard nightmare stories of, retired.

Liam had been playing baseball all his life, ever since he could walk, he was always tossing balls and playing with his foam bats, something his father had taught him. You scowled at the memories of your ex, but your son's baseball skills and love of the game came because of him, so you couldn't be too irritated.
