New relm, new me

LUZ POV

Today was horrible. Ever since I went to that stupid camp everyone thinks I'm "HoTer NoW".
Stupid bitches.

Anyways school is finally out for summer and I can get away from that hell hole. The only bad thing is that the scary thoughts are spreading like a weed, the thoughts that say that I deserve to bleed.

Mama hasn't found out yet which is good, I don't want her to send me back to that awful place that caused all this.

I'm about to go into my house when a little brown owl lands on my shoulder. "Oh, hi little guy. What are you doing here?"

The owl hopped off my shoulder, flew to the tree line, then flew back to me and repeated it. "Do you want me to follow you?" I look back at my house remembering the good memories, then the bad ones, so I made a choice. "Ok little guy. I follow you. Just give me a second."

I ran inside my house, luckily my mom wasn't home yet, and into my room. I emptied out my school bag and put in some clothes and essentials. I went back outside and took one last look at my house. "I guess I'm finally running away." I said as I looked at the owl as he led the way.

"Are we almost there little guy?" I look at the owl as he comes to a stop in front of an old abandoned house. He flew up to the door and a bright light revealed a weird looking door. It had a big yellow eye in the middle and it was covered in weird symbols.

"Woah. I guess I was right and I didn't need to go to that stupid camp." I say with rage in my voice.
I take a deep breath in. "Time to get out of this place." I open the door and walk through.

When I get to the other side I see a world of magic and beauty...except for the bone creatures.
The owl starts flying towards a small town. "Hey! Wait up!" I yell as I follow the little guy.

He leads me to the town and behind some stands. He leads me to one in particular that was selling 'human collectibles.'

I look out from behind a curtain and see a woman with gray-silver hair trying to sell a bottle of chloroform to a little blue dude. "Just buy it! It's a rare human energy drink!" She says, trying to convince him to buy it.

In the end he gives in and buys it, storming away afterward. "Oh! Owlbert! You're back! Did you get me more human collectibles?" She asks the owl, who I now know is named Owlbert.

He simply hoots and the lady gives him a confused look. He looks at me and signals me to come out of my hiding place. I walk out and the lady looks shocked but then looks like she has an idea.

"What can I do for you, human?" She asks.

"Well, I was planning on running away from my  house and this owl led me here." I respond.

"Hmm. How about I make you an offer: you can stay with me if you help with chores around the house." She says.

"What about magic lessons? Is there a school here?" I ask.

"Well, yes there is a school, if you want to learn magic then that's your best bet. I can get you signed up when summer break ends" she responds.

"How long until then?" I asked.

"A week." She says.

I think for a second. Do I really want to go back to school? In the human realm my summer break just started. But I want to see what witch school is like.

"Alright, I agree to your offer miss..." "Eda"she says "Eda"I say. She looks pretty happy as she takes her stand down with a snap.

"Then hop on!" She yells as Owlbert turns into a staff and she gets on, waiting for me.

I was a bit surprised but I didn't let it show. I got on the staff and we flew off. This place was more amazing than I could have ever imagined, it looked so beautiful, creepy, but beautiful.

We soon landed at an old house, it didn't look as old as the house the portal was at, but still. We walked up to the door and were met by a bird...tube...thing?

"Hiya Eda! Oooo~ who's this? A new friend? HOOT!" The owl tube said. Eda pinched her nose bridge and sighs.

"We don't have time Hooty. And for your information this is my new assistant...what was your name again?" She asks.

"Oh, right, I'm Luz Noceda." I say in my usual monotone voice. She nods in recognition that I said something and opens the door, much to the bird tube's protests.

The inside of the house looked normal until...

"Welcome to, the owl house!" Eda says as she snaps. Instantly the house comes alive, brooms start sweeping, dishes start cleaning themselves, and all the candles lit up. "Woah." Was all I could say.

"Who dares interrupt the king of demons!" I hear a voice yell from the shadows. I was expecting a big scary demon, but instead I see the cutest thing ever.

"EEEEEEE, Eda he is so cute!" I exclaim, letting my true self show through as I run over and pick him up. "I AM NOT CUTE! UNHAND ME!" He yells.

"Alright kid, let king go." Eda says holding back a laugh.

"Ok..." I say sadly.

"Now let me show you your room." Eda says. We walk upstairs and go into an empty room. It wasn't much but I can make it work. At least it's better than the rooms at that terrible camp.

It was finally night and I could sleep. I was thoroughly exhausted, today I had to help Eda and get king's crown back (and it wasn't even a real crown), then we got caught up in this whole thing with the warden.

Anyways, I lay down on my sleeping bag and look at the ceiling until I hear some shuffling by my door. I look up and see king standing in the doorway holding his little rabbit plush.

"Your sleep cocoon looks soft..." he says. I smile and pat my sleeping bag. He runs over and curls up on top of the sleeping bag. I lay down and sigh happily. "I think I'm going to like it here." I say before I fall asleep.
