LUZ'S POV

Today is my first day at hexside! I can't wait, I hope I make a good impression...

Well let's not think about it too much. This past week has been so cool! I got to steal a lot of things, help Eda run the stand, and best of all I've barely thought about that terrible camp or had any scary thoughts the whole time!

Anyways, we landed in front of the school and i hopped off Owlbert. This place is huge! It's like fifty of my old schools combined!

"Ok kid, have a good first day... AND DON'T FORGET TO DO YOUR CHORES WHEN YOU GET HOME!" Eda says as I walk into the building.

I snicker and nod, walking into the building. When I get inside I go to the office and get my schedule. It seems pretty simple, and at least I don't have to do only one track. That's a funny story actually, Bump originally said no but then he looked at something behind me and got scared, so I looked behind me and all I saw was Eda with a sweet smile, he agreed to the multi track study's after that...I wonder what he was looking at though...

But back to the point, I walked into my first class and the teacher seemed nice. I walked to the back of the class and sat down, just then the bell rang and a group of three boys came in. The one in front, who I guessed was the leader, had blond hair and looked like he could pass for a fourth grader.

One of the two behind him was tall with shaggy light brown hair. And the other had blue eyes, like the other two, and red hair. They looked at me and a mischievous grin crept on their faces as they sat down.

The rest of the students came in in herds. After everyone got into the classroom the teacher started taking attendance, which told me the names of that group of boys, the leader was named William, the boy with shaggy light brown hair was named Grant, and the other boy was named Sorin.

When she got to my name she had me stand up and introduce myself. I hate introducing myself to people, I hate people in general. The group of boys kept eyeing me the whole class and at the end they followed me into the hall and cornered me.

I know how this ends...

AMITY'S POV

Today started like any other, I woke up, avoided my mom, and went to school. My first class was normal and so was the free period, but what was different was second period.

I had heard rumors that a human had joined our school, but I thought that was all they were, rumors. Apparently they were true.

I was sitting in my seat for second period when the bell rang. I didn't think much of it until the teacher spoke. "Class, this is our new student Luz the human. I want you to treat her like you would anyone else, ok?"

"Ok." The class said in unison. I can't believe this! A random human shows up and she gets into hexside without even trying! That's so unfair! I thought as Luz walks towards me and sits across from me.

I look at her a bit closer and realize a few things: one, she looks freshly beat up, and I mean she looks like she hasn't even gone to the healers office yet. Two, she looks angry, and not in the mood for any bull shit.

The class goes on and at the end all the students leave for lunch, but the teacher stops me and the new girl. "Before you two leave I want to ask you something. Amity, will you help tutor Luz and help her with anything else school related because she's new here?" The teacher asks.

I look at the intimidating human. Hmm. Take the extra credit and make mom happy, or be scared of a human.

"Alright, I'll do it." I say, and the human looks surprised, but only for a second before she returns to her intimidating state. The teacher looks pleased and sends us on our way.

I look at the human and see that she has a much older looking scar on her cheek. "So...what brings you to the demon realm?" I ask to ease the tension.

She looks thoughtful for a second before answering. "To get away from everything and everyone." She says with anger in her voice.

"Oh, ok. So, um, I'm Amity blight, I don't think I got your last name though." I say. She looks shocked again as she answers. "Luz Noceda. And, uh, thanks for asking. No one's ever cared enough to ask that." She responds.

Sounds like she had a terrible home life, like me.

We got to the lunch room and talked for a bit before we were rudely interrupted by someone yelling at us.

"HEY LUZER! TIME FOR ROUND TWO!" A voice, which I recognize as William's, yells. Suddenly Sorin walks over and punches Luz right in the face. But what shocked me more was that Luz looked used to this, she was barely fighting back and was instead curling up in a ball to protect herself.

I quickly jumped up and tried pulling him off of her, just as a teacher ran in. We eventually got him off and the teacher sent him to the principals office.

I look at Luz who's already getting up and dusting herself off. "Woah, are you ok?" I ask.
"Yeah, it's not the first time something like that has happened..." She trailes off.

Weird. I think, but u shrug it off. The day continues and to my surprise me and Luz were in a bunch of the same classes. At the end of the day we said goodbye to each other and I gave her my number so she could contact me.

When I got home I went straight to my room and pulled out my homework and started working on it. I was half way through when I got a text. It read: 'Hey, it's Luz. I thought I would text you so you would have my number.' I smiled for some reason. I don't know why, but she makes me feel weird and happy.

I responded with a simple 'Hey.' And left it at that. That night I fell asleep thinking about her, and what a cool human she is.
