"And they lived happily ever after. Thee end!" "Okay, time for bed little one." Lilly said. "But I don't want to mommy." "You have to. You've stayed up long enough." "Fine. Can I have a glass of water?" Megan asked. "Yes, then straight to bed." "Okay." She drank the glass of water, then I tucked her into bed, kissed her forehead, shut the lights off and her nightlight turned on, and then I finally closed her door.
'My goodness. I forgot how difficult it is to be a single mother.' I thought. So I grab a magazine, turn on the TV, turn the volume down, and turn on the lamp before I turn the main living room light off. 'Peace at last.' or so I thought. About 15 minutes later Megan comes out and says, "Mommy I can't sleep." "Okay baby, come on." I say as I put down the magazine and shut the TV off. I get up, shut the lamp off, and carry her to her room. In her room I crawl into bed with her and sing her to sleep.
When she's sleeping I sneak out of her room and into mine. I change into pj's and fall asleep thinking 'Will she be safe tomorrow?'
