Emma’s voice quaked but steadied her resolve. “We need to call the police now!”
But before they could, the figure turned suddenly, revealing a familiar face—Ben, the quiet son of a neighbor, infamous for his roguish temperament.
“What are you doing here?” Emma stammered, confusion flooding her mind.
“I— I just wanted to scare them. They’re all so smug, thinking money protects them.” A manic glint shone in Ben’s eyes. Suddenly, it all clicked; the betrayals, the secrets, wrapped in the peculiar charm of wealth and privilege.
“We’re not afraid of you,” Jake shouted, stepping forward defiantly. “You won’t win!”
In that moment, a siren whirred in the distance. Ben’s face twisted in fury. “You’ve ruined everything!” he screamed as he bolted, adrenaline fueling his frantic escape.
