Chapter 3: The Investigation
With careful steps, she approached the Collins estate, shadows pooling around the sides of the opulent driveway. Her heart raced as she noticed a flickering light behind the drawn curtains of the home’s grand living room. She could hear muffled voices—adults, discussing the tragedy, perhaps.
Emma climbed the garden wall, her foot slipping on the wet stone. The sound of laughter froze her blood—an echo of innocence lost. Heart pounding, she crept toward the sound. Peering through a crack, she saw Mr. Collins, wild-eyed and frantic. Beside him, a police officer scribbled notes furiously. Her breath caught—what if they discovered her spying?
Then, a name caught her attention. “It can’t be just a coincidence—he’s been targeting our families for months. We have to figure out who he is before someone else goes missing.”
An idea sparked in Emma’s mind, illuminating paths darkened by fear. She had friends, connections, and while they were scared, they could also help
