¨There.¨ Jace said, placing the star on the institute's smaller Christmas tree. There was a larger one in the ballroom that towered over everyone, but Clary also wanted a smaller, more traditional Christmas tree to put gifts under. He looked at Clary, who was standing beside him holding Lucy, and gives her a small kiss.
¨It looks perfect. ¨ she praises as Lucy grabs at the tree. Clary was the one that did most of the decorating, not knowing what it would look like if Jace did it. ¨I think someone else likes it too¨ she says laughing and pulling her farther away from the tree so she won't break anything.
¨I know, I put the star on. ¨ Jace says, mock full of himself.
"Has Tessa gotten back to you on if they are coming for Christmas?" Clary asks.
"Not exactly." Jace answers, "She wants to, but Jem also wants to see Emma, and Kit wants to spend Christmas with Ty, and Tessa just wants them all to spend Christmas together."
"What if..." Clary trails off. The only other ones who would stay at the institute Christmas Eve were her parents, and she was certain they had the room, but is a little hesitant about the idea. "What if they all come here?" Jace looks at her, trying to figure out what she was saying.
"You mean all the Blackthorns, Mark, Helen, Aline, Julian, Emma, Ty, Dru, and Tavvy, along with Tessa, Jem, Mina and Kit, on top of, Alec, Magnus, Max, Rafe, Isabelle, Anna, Simon Mom, Jocelyn and Luke?" Jace asks, slightly winded after going through all the names.
"And Jia." Clary adds. "Most of them were already coming here Christmas day anyway."
"When are you thinking about them coming?" Jace asks reluctantly.
"A week before Christmas?" Clary asks, adding puppy dog eyes. "Come on Lucy, help me out." She whispers in her ear while holding her up also. "The rest can stay also." She adds, referring to the Lightwoods.
"So we are talking 20 people here for over a week, and we only have a week to decorate all the rooms? "he asks skeptically.
"It's called Magnus. Has Alec told you when he's coming back from Idris?"
"He's going to try to be home by mid-week. Yes, the Blackthorns can come." he adds, seeing how much she wants this after coming up with the idea.
"Thank you." Clary gives him a slow kiss, shifting Lucy to her side.
Emma is in the kitchen baking Christmas cookies with Tavvy and Dru. Tavvy is shaking a bottle of sprinkles all over a cookie.
"Do you want some cookies with your sprinkles and icing?" Emma asks, just as Julian comes in.
"I think the sprinkles are the best part." Julian says. He walks over to Emma and gives her a quick kiss.
"Then I made this one for you!" Tavvy says excitedly, handing him a plate with a candy cane cookie covered in way too many sprinkles.
"Thank you." Julian then looks to Emma. She gives him a look like not going to help you here. Tavvy starts decorating the next one, a Santa Claus.
"Do Jem and Tessa know where they are going yet?" Emma not having heard anything from them."
"Not that I know." Dru quietly leads Tavvy out of the room, after two years, he still hasn't learned where things go when Emma and Julian are around. "I know Jem is a Carstairs, but I was actually hoping they will decide to go to New York. This could be last year Tavvy is the baby, and Ty is going to be an adult, and I don't know if Mark and Christina are planning to come next year."
