I logged off my computer and smiled. Oh, how life has changed in the past month. Since that unjustified suspension I’ve dropped out, gotten my GED, started working at Progressive and cheated on Brandon. The cheating I’m still ashamed of and he doesn’t know anything but everything else I’m proud of.

Brandon works nights since he’s still in school and he works four to five nights a week. I’ve lost touch with a lot of my so-called friends from school since dropping out and it sucks. Sometimes I go to the park when Brandon is at work, and I hate to admit but I’m sinking into a depression. Even though I’ve accomplished a lot, I still think dropping out was stupid.

At first everyone was upset with me dropping out but when I got my GED and started working, they got past it. Dylan and I have fought once or twice about my choice to drop out, he thinks it’s fucked up that I blame him for it, but everyone told him to get off my back before I leave the neighborhood and they lose me forever because of him.

I also have enrolled in the local community college and will start there in January. I’m going to take core classes at first but once I finish my pre-requisite courses, I’m going to enroll in the nursing program. I didn’t want to go to college but both Brandon and Andrew pushed for me to sign up and take classes immediately. I can only work part-time currently, so I’ll take my classes on Monday and Wednesday during the day and work Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, leaving Tuesday as my only day off.

Yes, Andrew and I are still talking. I figured he’d never want to talk to me again after we had sex but he’s one of the few I still talk to daily. He comes over to the park to hang out once or twice a week, but we don’t take off alone. He recently got a girlfriend named Sara and I don’t want to mess things up for them.

I got up from my desk and headed over to Mrs. Holly’s desk. She was still on a call, so I leaned against her cubicle, took out my phone and sent a text to Andrew.

Me: Hey, did you still want to hang out tonight or you doing something with Sara?

No surprise to me, he replied immediately. His family has a lot of money and a lot of power so he and Chloe can pretty much do whatever they want.

Andrew: No plans with Sara, I’ll come chill with you and Kailey.

Me: Do I need to pick you up?

Andrew: No. Dad told me last night the BMW is mine. They were going to wait until my birthday to give it to me but decided to give it to me early since I’m looking into dual enrollment.

Me: That’s awesome!!! What’s that?

Andrew: I’ll tell you later.

He is such a spoiled kid. I’m glad he doesn’t let all the money go to his head though.

Mrs. Holly walked out of her cubicle and cleared her throat. I looked up and smiled.

“Sorry I took so long; I couldn’t get that bitch off the phone.” Mrs. Holly sighed.

“It’s alright, I’ve had those calls. Let’s go home.”

“Sounds like a plan.”

We walked out of the office and headed to the parking lot. On the days we’re scheduled to work the same shift we’ll usually ride in together. Saves me on gas! I’m trying to save up as much as I can so when Brandon graduates, we can get an apartment. My mom and I went to the courthouse and signed emancipation paperwork so when I’m ready, I can get my own apartment without having to worry about my age.

My mom and I have made amends from when she kicked me out over the summer. I told her about losing Justin, Dylan’s harassment, dropping out and getting my GED. When I told her I’m working at Progressive now she actually suggested we get me emancipated so that way I can move on in life, get an apartment and be able to get utilities in my name. She said she’ll cover my cell bill and car insurance until I do get into an apartment then I can pay her for those bills.
