Author's Note:
The first part of this note will be self-promotion. For those who were following my other story, I also updated Dear Katherine Pierce a couple of days ago! That said, I posted at the end of the first part of this story (Main Cast) a sort of Ship Contest about Hayley and her future partner(s). Go to comment your preference if you want to!
I'll consider your preferences and decide on the final ship at the end of the month.
In addition, I advise you that I will take some extra time to write chapter 5, which will be published between November 12th and 16th.
Now, I will leave you with Chapter 4. Enjoy your reading and let me know what you think about it—I'm not 100% convinced by the result!━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━═━

The rain was beating against the windows of Diane's room, and the little girl was lying on her carpet, her eyes dancing between the lines of her new book. Noises and voices could be heard in the distance, as well as the smell of the roast the maid was preparing. The house would be filled in a few hours, but unlike the day before, Diane hoped it would happen as late as possible. She had not put that book down since the previous afternoon; she had been completely enraptured by it. The magic and the world described in those pages had brought her more joy than anything else she had ever read. Hogwarts was a dream, and Harry was an ordinary boy with whom she could identify.
They were the same age, and like him, she had been raised by people who had not brought her into the world. Even if her adoptive parents were definitely better than his aunt and uncle, Diane could understand his desire to learn as much information as possible about his biological family.
Unlike Harry, she had not yet been so lucky. When her parents had sat her down in her father's study the year before after she pleaded for a sibling and informed her that it wasn't possible because they couldn't have children and she was adopted, they hadn't been able to tell her anything about her biological parents, other than that her mother had left her in a hospital when she was three months old, along with a necklace, which she had worn around her neck ever since.
However, she hoped that one day, just like Harry, she would be able to get answers because, while she wouldn't have traded her parents for anyone else, she wanted to know more about them.
Of course, they wouldn't have been the witches and wizards who had given their lives for her, but Diane somehow knew that her parents had loved her, and that necklace around her neck was a clear example of that. It wasn't an invisibility cloak, but it was a heartfelt gift that her mother had wanted to leave her, so it was worth so much more.
