As I awoke that morning, I couldn't help but notice the empty space in the bed next to me where my beloved Tommy should have been. Concerned, I quickly got dressed and made my way downstairs, where I found Tommy already seated at the table, enthusiastically digging into a hearty plate of eggs. His face instantly lit up with joy when he caught sight of me, and through a mouthful of food, he cheerfully greeted me. I couldn't help but smile at his endearing display as I busied myself preparing a piece of toast for my own breakfast.

As I ate, I listened intently to the lively conversations happening all around me, savoring the comforting familiarity of our home. Once I had finished my meal, I tenderly kissed the top of Tommy's head before heading out to run a few errands. My first stop was Tommy's uncle Curly's yard, where I lent a hand moving some heavy equipment and tending to our shared horses. The physical labor was a welcome distraction, allowing me to work through the lingering unease I felt over Tommy's absence that morning.

By the time I had completed my tasks, the sun was starting to set, so I made my way to the local bar, hoping to find Tommy there. But to my disappointment, he was nowhere to be seen. I ended up staying for a few hours, trying to unwind with a few drinks, when suddenly I was accosted by a group of officers who roughly dragged me to the police station. In the dimly lit cellar, they began aggressively interrogating me, demanding to know the whereabouts of some non-existent firearms. Despite my insistence that we had no such weapons, they continued to beat me mercilessly, leaving me coughing up blood.

Eventually, they relented and released me, allowing me to stagger home, clutching my aching ribs. As I walked through the door, I wearily informed Aunt Pol of the officers' brutality, wiping the dried blood from my face as I did so. After she had tended to my wounds, I made my way upstairs, only to find a deeply concerned Tommy waiting for me. He was horrified to learn of my mistreatment, and as I collapsed into his comforting embrace, he murmured his apologies, holding me close as we drifted off to sleep, my mind finally at ease in the safety of his arms.
