Tommy and I were nestled comfortably in our bed, sound asleep and shirtless, when a boisterous voice broke through our dreams. "Get up, boys, it's time to get to work!" It was Tommy's Aunt Pol, and her sudden intrusion elicited an exaggerated groan from Tommy. With a playful flick of a pillow, she knocked him lightly, making me chuckle at the familiar scene. Once Aunt Pol left, the spell of sleep slowly faded, and we reluctantly roused ourselves.
"Ugh, I can't believe it's morning already," Tommy grumbled, clearly still battling the remnants of fatigue. I leaned in and pulled him closer for a soft kiss, savoring the moment before I broke away to get dressed. We made our way downstairs, the air buzzing with anticipation, ready to dive into a day of races ahead of us. Business awaited, and after taking care of it, we felt a sense of relief that only led to laughter as we walked away from the events.
The day continued, and we found ourselves at the bar, where I decided to indulge in a cigarette while the atmosphere wrapped around me like a warm blanket. Just then, Finn, Tommy's little brother, burst in with urgency plastered across his face. "Ada's giving birth!" he exclaimed, and without hesitation, Tommy and I rushed home.
When we arrived, we were greeted by the sound of Ada's determined screams echoing through the walls until, at last, the cries of a newborn filled the room. The sight of Ada cradling her baby boy, both of them finally resting in a peaceful slumber, brought smiles to all of our faces. "Let's go get drunk," Arthur declared, breaking the tranquil moment.
So, the four of us—Tommy, Arthur, John, and I—set off to the bar again. While the others took it easy on the drinks, I fully embraced the opportunity to celebrate. I drank freely, my laughter growing louder as the night wore on. By the time we headed home, I was in high spirits, the world spinning around me in a haze of delight.
Tommy, ever the so graceful boyfriend, scooped me up when I could hardly keep my balance and carried me upstairs. He helped me undress, his laughter mixing with mine as we shared in the joy of the night. Once I was settled, he lay down beside me, his arm encircling me tightly while he played with my hair. He wouldn't let himself fall asleep until he was sure I was peacefully drifting off, a protective instinct woven into his embrace. He always tightened his hold a bit more when we slept, as if afraid someone might try to take me away from him, though, at that moment, I knew I was right where I belonged.
