Draco's POV:

Mr. Filch took me, Harry, Hermione, and Ron to hagrids hut for our detention. I was so upset that old McGonagall gave me detention. Of course, I can't tell my father about this. He would be livid that I got detention for something so petty.

"A pity they let the old punishments die. There was a time detention would find you hanging by your thumbs in the dungeons. God, I miss the screaming."
I gulps, and Hermione rushes by.
"You'll be serving detention with Hagrid tonight. He's got a little job to do inside the Dark Forest.
Hagrid appears with a crossbow. He sniffles.
"A sorry lot, this, Hagrid. Oh, good God, man, you're not still on about that bloody dragon, are you?"

I smirked as Hagrid sniffled.

"Norbert's gone. Dumbledore sent him off to Romania to live in a colony." Hagrid cried to the trio.

"Well, that's good, isn't it? He'll be with his own kind."

"Yeah, but what if he don't like Romania? What if the other dragons are mean to him? He's only a baby, after all."

Filch rolled his eyes, and I followed suit. Hagrid is a sorry piece of work. He is crying for no reason.

"Oh, for God's sake, pull yourself together, man. You're going into the Forest, after all. Got to have your wits about you."

"The Forest? I thought that was a joke! We can't go in there. Students aren't allowed. And there are..." A howl was heard, which made me shake more as it cut off my sentence. "...werewolves!"

"There's more than werewolves in those trees, lad. You can be sure of that. Nighty-night."

He leaves to go back into the castle, and I stare at his old spot, terrified.

Right. Let's go.

In the Forbidden Forest, we walk along a path to a tree. Hagrid stops, bends down, and dips his fingers in a silver puddle. He pulls out his fingers and rubs them together. A silver trail smears with his fingers.

"Hagrid, what is that?" Harry asks, taking the words right out of my mouth.

"What we're here for. See that? That's unicorn's blood, that is. I found one dead a few weeks ago. Now, this one's been hurt bad by something. So, it's our job to go and find the poor beast. Ron, Hermione, you'll come with me."

"Okay." They both agreed easily.

"And Harry, you'll go with Malfoy."

I grimaces as Harry nods. "Okay. Then I get Fang." I said smugly.

"Fine. Just so you know, he's a bloody coward." Fang whined in response, like he understood everything.

Harry and I are walking through a part of the forest, with Fang leading. I have the lamp in his hand.

"You wait till my father hears about this. This is servant's stuff."

"If I didn't know better, Draco, I'd say you were scared." Harry said with a small laugh.

"Scared, Potter?" I scoff, but suddenly hear a howl. My hard front dropped instantly as I clinged to Harrys arm. "Did you hear that? Come on, Fang. Scared!"

Harry and I approach a flat ground with gnarled roots all over. Fang stops, then growls.

"What is it, Fang?"

Up ahead is a cloaked figure who is crouching over a dead unicorn, drinking its blood from its wound. The figure raises its head, silver blood dripping from its mouth. Harry gasps and grabs his scar, which is hurting. I screamed with pure fear and held onto Harry tightly.

"HARRY, DO SOMETHING!"

The figure slides over the unicorn and rises erect. It advances towards Harry, who backs up but trips over my foot. We both fall, but he crawls backward. Suddenly, there is the sound of hoof-beats. A figure leaps over Harry and I and lands near the cloaked figure. It is a silver centaur called Firenze. It rears, and the cloaked figure retreats, flying away.

"Harry Potter, you must leave. You are known to many creatures here. The Forest is not safe at this time. Especially for you."

"Wow, I guess I'm not really cared for here. I'll tell my father about you!"

They both ignored me.

"But what was that thing you saved me from?" Harry asked as he talked.

A monstrous creature. It is a terrible crime to slay a unicorn. Drinking the blood of a unicorn will keep you alive even if you are an inch from death. But at a terrible price. You have slain something so pure that from the moment the blood touches your lips, you will have a half-life. A cursed life."

"But who would choose such a life?"

"Can you think of no one?"

"Do you mean to say that thing that killed the unicorn that was drinking its blood, that was Voldemort?"

My jaw tightened. "Voldemort!? My father will definitely hear about this now!"

"Look, you two run along now. Be vary careful and stick together."

Hay nods and takes my hand as we try to find the others. Harry looked at me and sighed.

"Why are you so mean all the time, Draco?"

"I'm not mean, Potter. I'm just teating people by their status."

Harry was about to say something when we heard Fangs barking. "You know, if you didn't act that way, I wouldn't mind being friends with you. I'll protect you." Harry laughed softly.

I pushed him into the mud and walked away from him, but secretly, my cheeks were bright red.

"Harry!" Hermione helped him up, and we walked up to Hagrid. Harry told Hagrid everything.
