depression feasts on your failures, your embarrassments, your sadness, and your struggles. it has already consumed your pride, happiness, confidence, and motivation. every day, you'll lie in bed hopelessly tired and burnt out.
"nobody cares about you," the monster will say. its grin is wide and carries a look of malice and malevolence. it'll repeat itself before adding: "nobody loves you."
a smile crosses your face; an idea.
"nobody would notice if you were gone," it smiles.
a knock at the door; it's hope. you go to answer it, but, the corridor is long, what motivation do you have left to answer it? just before you'll reach the door, depression will put a hand on your shoulder before saying: "allow me to get it for you."
the door will creek open, hope will take one look at depression before running away; what you'll do, escape. now the door is open, "freedom awaits," it smiles.
the outside isn't how you remembered it, things are much different now. the world is bright and colourful, "look at how pretty it is," depression will put a hand on your back. "do you want to go out there?"
you'll nod; eager to find hope, something you hadn't had in a while. finally, a place of peace, at least, that's what it promised you. before you know it, you'll be pushed out the door and you'll fall. where you ask? an endless void of regret, truth, and disappointment. nothing has been solved! depression laughs from the comfort of your lost mind.
you begin to wonder what you could've done to change this outcome. what if you had told depression you had the door? hope wouldn't have escaped, and possibly, depression would be gone. but, let's face it. depressing would stop you either way... you cannot escape it. be cautious, for if you are not, to will become a vicious and inescapable cycle.
