poetry is something beautiful, it's something that comes differently to everyone. there are many forms of poetry, but all come with a deeper meaning that needs a specific mind to be able to comprehend the complexity fully.
poetry isn't just written to convey a feeling, it's written to make you feel. although a poet might write something to make you feel a certain emotion, you might feel another.
opinions on the matter come unique to every person. if you do not enjoy apples you will not feel happy when reading, what the poet intended to be, a positive experience of eating apples. do you enjoy consuming apples? are you, perhaps, a consumer?
poetry is something wonderful yet disastrous and chaotic all at once. poetry can consist of rhymes, figurative language, and all devices as such. personally, rhyme is something that stresses me, but ask others and they might feel differently. it is just a part of poetry; writing and consuming.
an example of the diversity of poetry and poets is e.e. cummings and shakespeare. shakespeare's form of poetry is conveyed through plays and sonnets, he expresses love and tragedy. e.e. cummings writes poetry one might consider unusual, his work needing more time to fully comprehend the theme and deeper meaning of the text. e.e. cummings does not often obey the rules of english grammar, shakespeare does.
if someone says they don't enjoy poetry, then they have not found the right form of poetry for them. if someone claims they do not enjoy reading, they have not read a short yet fascinating poem. there is a type of poetry for everyone out there, we all enjoy different things and i guarantee that there is at least one other person out there who is like-minded.
so, explore topics, diction, and tone. what is it you like, what is something you've come to notice in yourself or your community; write about it. write in a way that the reader will have to spend time pondering your work to understand the same complexities you do.
