The early morning light crept through the blinds, illuminating the familiar surroundings of my old bedroom with a warm, nostalgic glow. It had been so long since I'd spent a night at my parents' house that it felt almost surreal, as though I'd woken up in a forgotten chapter of my life. I let my gaze wander over the framed pictures on the walls, memories etched in each one, reminders of simpler days before everything became so complicated.

A sudden buzz on my phone broke the quiet, and I reached over to see a message from Sarah, my best friend. "Halloween!" she'd written, punctuated by a parade of pumpkin and ghost emojis. Ava's annual Halloween party. Tonight. The reminder stirred a mix of excitement and nerves. Halloween had always been a carefree celebration, but this year, it felt like a looming confrontation.

I stretched, scrolling through my messages, when my heart skipped a beat. Alex, had sent me the guest list for tonight. My eyes scanned the names, landing on one in particular: Nevan. Seeing his name made my stomach twist with a strange cocktail of dread and curiosity. The thought of facing him after all these years made me reconsider going, but then Sarah's words from the night before echoed in my mind: "You need to show him what he missed out on!"

Despite my reservations, her infectious enthusiasm pulled me in, and a thrill began to build beneath my nerves. I couldn't let Nevan's unexpected return ruin my night. If anything, I'd show him just how much I'd changed, just how much I'd moved on.

I decided on a daring costume—a sleek black dress that clung to my curves with intricate lace detailing, a bold slit along the thigh, and a neckline that flirted with being scandalous. It was elegant but undeniably seductive, the kind of look that would make anyone take a second glance. My hair fell in soft waves, framing my face, and I finished the look with a smoky eye and deep red lipstick. I barely recognized myself, but I liked the feeling of reinvention.

Later, as I pulled up to Ava's house, I pulled up to her house, stepping out of the car with a small grin as she approached, looking stunning in her outfit. She wrapped me in a warm hug, her voice bright with excitement.

"Hi, babes! You look amazing!" she beamed, giving me a quick once-over with approval in her eyes.

I laughed, returning the compliment. "You look good too."

We chatted effortlessly, falling into our usual rhythm as we made our way toward the party. The soft hum of music grew louder as we reached the door, and I could already sense the energy of the night ahead. the sound of laughter and music spilled out onto the street, setting the festive, lively tone of the night. Taking a deep breath, I walked up to the door, reminding myself to be confident. Inside, the decorations transformed the place into an eerie yet glamorous setting, with shadows cast by dimly lit chandeliers and cobwebs draped over furniture. I spotted Alex almost immediately, dressed in a pirate costume that he somehow made look both rugged and princely. Beside him was Ava, dazzling as a sorceress, her entire look shimmering with tiny, twinkling lights.
