It was lunchtime, and I walked to the mass hall, hoping to have a peaceful meal. I grabbed my tray and headed to the buffet area. The Starkiller Base was said to have more delicious meals compared to other bases, and I was eager to find out.

I picked up a muffin and looked around for a place to sit. My eyes wandered over the empty seats until they caught sight of General Hux at his table.

He signaled with his hand, inviting me to join him.

I hesitated for a moment, then made my way over. As I approached, Hux gestured to the seat across from him.

"Captain, please," he said, his voice even.

I sat down, placing my tray on the table. "How are you finding your first day in command?" he asked, his gaze steady.

"Challenging, but rewarding," I replied honestly.

"I'm ready to do whatever it takes to ensure our success."

Hux nodded approvingly. "That's the spirit we need. You'll find that leading the Starkiller base requires both discipline and initiative. I have no doubt you'll rise to the occasion."

I gave a small smile, feeling a mixture of pride and determination. I looked at the table and noticed there were Generals, Captains, and Lieutenants sitting there.

All of a sudden, I felt small, but I tried to brush off that feeling.

I belong here; this is my new position and my life now. So, get used to it, I told myself.

"So this is the new Captain?" I heard a robotic voice behind me.

I turned slightly, and there was Kylo Ren towering over me. I smiled and extended my hand to shake, but Kylo Ren just looked at my hand before continuing.

"I hope General Hux has made the right decision in hiring you. I hope you can catch up," he said before leaving and taking his seat at the table.

I took a deep gulp, surprised by his reaction. Great. There goes my appetite.

Elrik Vonreg leaned in slightly, his voice low enough for only me to hear.

"Don't let Kylo intimidate you. He's... not the easiest to impress, but he's effective at what he does. Focus on your tasks, and soon enough, he'll come to respect you."

I nodded, trying to take his words to heart. "Thank you. I appreciate the support."

Elrik gave a slight smile. "You're part of the First Order now, Captain. We look out for each other. Remember that."

I took a deep breath and nodded again, feeling a bit more reassured.

I forced myself to take a bite of the muffin, the taste not quite as good as I had hoped, but at least it was something.

I could feel the eyes of some of the officers on me, gauging my reaction. I straightened my back, determined not to show any sign of weakness.
