trigger warning: descriptions of blood and allusions to self harm!

"SO,
y/n, i heard you had someone over last week."

You were about to look at imani but she shook her head. "It wasn't me!"

"It's alright, i saw on the doorbell." your dad stepped in.

You calmed down then apologised to imani before taking another bite of your food.

"Yeah, i had connie over." you said. "We just ate and talked dad that's it, nothing happened." you told him.

He gave you a reassuring smile. "It's okay. I liked connie anyways he's a good kid. How is basketball?"

"He said it's good." you told him.

"Frankly i'm still confused as to why you ended it." Julia said. "I thought that boy was perfect for you."

"Right? For a high school kid he had his stuff together." your dad agreed.

You put down your fork and mentally rolled your eyes. Any time his name was brought up outside of school made you shiver.

Julia, your dad's rat of a girlfriend, unfortunately was back. You'd hoped he got rid of her last time but no.

You loathed julia. How she'd always give you backhanded compliments, be passive aggressive and do small things to spite you like hog the bathroom, use your favorite plate, drink your apple juice.

Your dad couldn't see it. He always defended her which made you hate her even more. Because she was the one thing that made you dislike your dad.

Imani groaned and tried to push her plate away. "Daddy i don't want anymore."

"Imani, you need to finish your food. It's not good to waste." Julia said with a venomous smile.

"I was talking to daddy."

She put her fork down then looked at imani in shock. "Excuse me? Imani that's very rude of you!"

"No it's not." Imani responded swiftly.

"Imani, you can't speak to an adult like that." your dad said sternly. "You use your manners."

"But i just said i was talking to you that's not rude. I didn't say something mean." Imani responded genuinely confused.

"It doesn't matter, i don't want you to do that again." he snapped. "And i don't want you leaving this table until you've finished your food."

"But i'm full—"

"Finish it, imani!"

She sighed then took another small bite of the pasta. You saw the pleading look in her eyes when the two of you made eye contact. She hated her too.

You forced down your last bite then stood up from the table.

"You don't wanna sit and talk?" your dad asked.

"I've got work."

"College applications?" Julia spoke up in her fake interested voice.
