Chapter forty-three

Alina is finally awake.

A Few days later, the doctors were optimistic about Alina gaining consciousness but they never gave a specific time or date that she would wake up.

Matthew never left her side even if he needed to go to work.

It was on a Saturday morning when Alina gained consciousness and found someone beside her sleeping near the bed. She placed her hand on the person’s head waking them up.

“Alina, you are finally awake. I will go and get the doctor”, Matthew says, getting up and walking out of the door to get Alina's doctor.

Where am I? Where are Mum and Nana?

Alina asks herself while Matthew comes inside with the doctor.

"Miss Zayd, it's good to see you awake. How are you feeling now?”

“Confused and a little dizzy. Why am I in the hospital?” Alina asks surprising the doctor and Matthew.

“I think this young man can explain more because he has been with you since they brought you here almost three days ago,” the doctor said after assessing her. “I will leave you for now, but I will be back to check up on you again and see if I can let you go in the next three days,” he added and then left both Alina and Matthew alone.

“What was he talking about, Matthew? And please don't lie to me. I know that my mother took me out of the hospital when I got discharged and told me that Aliya was dead and it was all my fault. Is Aliya dead?” Alina asks with tears in her eyes.

“No, she isn't dead. I will explain from the beginning until the end, and I hope you will understand what I am saying to you,” Matthew said as he started explaining everything to her.

He explained how her mother had framed Aliya for her death and how she tried to use Hamza in her plan.

But Matthew wanted to ask him about their unborn child that Rukiya aborted.

“Where is my sister now? Please could you call her for me?” She begged Matthew who nodded.

I think my question will have to wait for now. The two sisters’ reunion is much needed.

Matthew excused himself and walked out of the hospital room to make the call to Aliya and Mr. Zayd to let them know that Alina was finally awake.

“I will see you soon.”

Matthew walked back inside to find Alina crying.

“What's wrong? If this has to do with your sister, then don't worry, she and your father are on their way here…”

“I am not crying because of that, Matt. I am crying because my mother forcefully aborted our baby without my knowledge and I couldn't do anything to prevent that…”

“Lina, my daughter!” her exclaimed as he and Aliya walked inside the room, making Matthew leave the room.

I don't know who or what to believe, Alina, but all I know is that I can't be near you even though it will hurt me more than anything. I need answers and I won't rest until I get them.

Meanwhile, in the room, Alina hugged her father and looked at her sister, who was standing there with tears in her eyes, not knowing what to do.

“Ali, I am sorry for what my mother did to you. She accused you of something you did do. It is time to clear your name and that's the first thing I will do…”

“Alina, I am okay. Thank you but you don't need to do anything. It's already done.”

Alina knew that whatever her mother did to her sister would always be the factor that would tear them apart.

The regret in Alina's eyes could be seen by both her father and sister.

“Ali, I am sorry for everything. Please forgive me…”

“I don't think I can do that now. But I am happy that you are better now. Dad, I will get going because Nanny is waiting for me at the house,” Aliya said and then turned to face her sister. “Somethings can't be forgiven by just saying sorry. Actions speak louder than words. I wish you all the happiness you deserve. May you always be happy,” she added and then walked out of the room with tears in her eyes knowing that what they shared as sisters was diminished by Rukiya.

Rukiya won and our sisterhood lost.
