S O F I A

The club was packed, the music thumping through my body, and I could feel the alcohol coursing through my veins, making everything feel lighter and brighter. I laughed with Amelia and Bella, the world around us a blur of color and sound. Lorenzo caught my eye from across the room, and a warm flutter spread through my stomach.

I felt giddy and brave, the buzz of the drinks giving me a sense of confidence I usually lacked. He was standing there, looking effortlessly handsome in his blue shirt, his dark hair tousled just right. I had to admit, despite the fact that he could be an ass sometimes, I was so grateful to have him in my life.

The moment felt electric. I pushed through the crowd until I was standing right in front of him, the world falling away. I didn't think, didn't hesitate. I just leaned in and kissed him, our lips meeting in a heated rush that sent sparks racing through my body. It was intoxicating, and I lost myself in the kiss, forgetting everything else.

But then, as I pulled away, I glanced over and froze. My brother, Giovanni, was standing a few feet away, his face pale and his eyes wide with shock.

"Oh my god, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to do that!" I stammered, suddenly feeling embarrassed.

Giovanni's expression twisted into anger, and I could see the tension radiating off him as he looked from me to Lorenzo. "What the hell, man? You're supposed to be taking care of her, not making out with her!"

Lorenzo's brows furrowed, and he opened his mouth to respond, but the air crackled with tension as they both squared off. My heart raced as I tried to interject, desperate to diffuse the situation before it escalated further.

"Guys, it was just a—"

"Shut up, Sofia!" Giovanni snapped, his voice laced with frustration. "You can't just kiss my best friend like that!"

Before I could say anything else, Giovanni turned to Lorenzo, his fists clenched. "You think this is funny? She's my sister!"

"Calm down, Gio," Lorenzo shot back, irritation evident in his tone. "It was a mistake. You know how drunk she is."

That comment made Giovanni explode. "Don't you dare talk about her like that! You think you can just mess with her feelings and walk away?"

I stepped forward, trying to mediate, but my head was spinning, and the room felt like it was closing in on me. "Guys, please! It was just a kiss, nothing serious—"

In a moment of sheer frustration, Giovanni swung his arm in the heat of the argument, and before I even realized what was happening, I felt a sharp pain in my side as his fist accidentally connected with me instead of Lorenzo.

Everything went black.
