A Few Days Later…
So now, a few days had passed since Pond’s first meeting with Phuwin, and Ara was finally getting to school on time—well, most of the time. There were still one or two days where she came in just a tad late, but Phuwin noticed Pond was at least trying his best. Ara, however, was usually dropped off just in time, and Phuwin had started letting those last-minute arrivals slide.
[A/N: Well, what can we say? Pond’s still struggling with those early wake-ups, and poor Ara’s been caught up in it all. But he’s doing his best to wake up earlier... maybe because someone special told him to 😉.]
It was the end of class, and Phuwin clapped his hands to get his students’ attention, a bright smile lighting up his face. “Alright, my little flowers! Listen up! I have a special announcement for all of you.”
The room went silent, and every pair of eyes turned eagerly toward him.
“Two days from now, we’re having our school’s sports day!” he said excitedly. “There will be games, activities, and lots of fun for everyone. And I want each one of you to participate in the games and activities we have planned!”
The children burst into excited chatter, whispering about what games they’d play and who they’d compete against.
“Oh, and one more thing!” Phuwin added, raising his voice slightly to be heard over the buzz of the classroom. “I want each of you to bring your parents along with you. We’ll have fun games that you can enjoy together with them!”
Ara’s eyes sparkled with excitement, and she quickly looked around for Phuwin’s approval. Phuwin smiled and nodded, thrilled to see his students so excited. With that, he ended the class, and the kids began filing out, ready to share the exciting news with their families.
Phuwin had just finished packing up and locked the classroom when he noticed little Ara sitting on the bench in the porch, her face scrunched up in a pout, waiting.
With a warm smile, he walked over. “Ara, baby, what are you still doing here, hmm? Everyone else has gone home.”
Ara pouted, her little brows knitting together. “I’m waitin’ for Dada. But he’sh not here yet.”
“It’s already getting a bit late. How about I give him a call to check in?” he offered, brushing back a stray lock of her hair.
“Yes, yes, pleash call him, Teacha Phu!” she nodded excitedly, her big eyes hopeful.
He chuckled, dialing Pond’s number. He tried once. No answer. Twice. Still no answer. After the fourth time, he sighed and turned to Ara, who was watching him with big, expectant eyes.
“Your dad’s not pickin’ up,” he told her gently.
Ara sighed dramatically, putting her tiny hand on her forehead like she was deeply troubled. “Hmph! He’sh alwayth like thish, sho…irresponshible!” She wagged a finger, scolding an imaginary Pond. “See? Hish cute baby ish waitin’ here, and he ish not ansherin’! What am I gonna do with him?” She shook her head like a disappointed old lady.
Phuwin couldn’t hold back a laugh, thoroughly amused by her theatrics. He patted her head gently. “Okay, okay, my little princess. Don’t worry too much, or you’ll get wrinkles on that cute face of yours.”
Ara gasped, putting her hands on her cheeks. “Wrinklesh?! Oh no, no!” She started patting her face lightly, as if smoothing away imaginary lines. “I wanna look pwetty for my future prince!”
Laughing, Phuwin couldn’t help but feel a warm fondness for her. “Oh really? I think you’re already the prettiest little princess.”
She giggled and nestled into his side. As the minutes ticked on, Phuwin tried calling Pond one last time, but still no answer.
Suddenly, Ara looked up at him curiously, her tiny finger tapping her chin. “Teacha Phu, do you have a prince?”
Phuwin blinked, a bit surprised. “A prince?”
“Uffo, Teacha Phu!” she said with a dramatic sigh. “You know… do you have a boyfrwiend?”
He stifled a laugh, marveling at her unexpected question. “A boyfriend? No, baby. I don’t have one.”
Ara looked horrified, gasping dramatically. “No boyfrwiend?! Teacha, you’re too pwetty to be alone!” She folded her little arms as though thinking hard, then tapped her chin. “Hmph. I’m gonna find you a prince. Just you wait, Teacha Phu!”
Phuwin laughed softly, patting her head. “Alright, Ara. I’ll leave it to you, my little matchmaker.”
Just then, they heard the hum of a motorcycle approaching. Pond came hurrying over, looking apologetic as he approached them.
“Dada, you’re late! Teacha Phu almost gots wrinklesh from waiting!” Ara said, putting her hands on her hips, clearly ready to lecture him.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart. Got caught up in a work call,” he said, then turned to Phuwin. “Sorry for keeping you both waiting.”
“It’s alright, Mr. Pond,” Phuwin replied with a smile. “Ara kept me well entertained.” He looked back down at Ara. “Alright, now go on home with your dad. And don’t be too hard on him, alright?”
Ara nodded solemnly, patting her dad’s arm. “Don’t worry, Teacha Phu. I’ll take care of him.”
As they got ready to leave, Ara’s gaze flicked between them, her little mind clearly at work. She grinned and said, “Dada. I tol’ Teacha Phu I’ll find him a prince!” She nodded proudly, clutching her backpack.
Phuwin and Pond both turned bright red, exchanging an awkward glance before laughing it off.
As they left, Phuwin could hear Ara already beginning her lecture about punctuality, leaving him smiling warmly as he locked up the classroom and headed home.
