The eyes are what I saw first. Cold, hard as ice. Hungry. But it didn't see me. Not yet anyway. It stays -searching for the food her young ones need so desperately- for 10 minutes. After those dreadful minutes pass- each feeling like an eternity- it begins to move backward. Retreating back into the woods. Just as I had thought the bear was gone, someone crashed through the bushes, obviously not accustomed to the woods. The bear raced back, stopping just ten feet away this time, with Emmet caught in her stare.
