Authors note. well heres the last chapter. thanks so much for all of you who stayed thrrough it until the end. i hope you like it.

'Emmet!'

He was there! All I really needed to do was follow the broken twigs and smashed bushes. But he was on the ground. Oh no- no no no! to soon! It was too soon!

I sat crisscrossed on the ground with his head in my lap. I stroked his hair, but I was too late to do anything. I knew that and he knew that. So he lay and I stroked. He looked up at me and in that moment I saw all the things he never told me. With my hand in his he gave one last final squeeze and a dying breath.

I never knew I could have cried harder than then. My hand still in his, my lips pressed to his temple, and my tears falling freely.

That's how Becca found me that night. His pale blue lips, and ice cold fingers, but still I couldn't let go. She tried to convince me to go but that made me hold on tighter. They got the paramedics here and I rode back with them. Not letting them pry our hands apart.

When I had to let go, I didn't cry, I didn't say anything at all. I had no emotions left. I was dead to the world around me. Nothing else mattered. And it didn't for a while.

Slowly I came back. After the police investigation. After Emmet's parents confessed about the cancer. After the school year. After everyone stopped trying to associate with me.

One day, after many passed; I talked again. It was on Emmet's 1st year. He had been dead for one year. That year was spent in a mental institute.

I came back. Slowly. On that day, I asked to go for a walk. Back to the forest. Back to the fallen tree, and back to the two foot hole filled with soil. Back to the note that started it.
