Chapter 2: A Cruel Joke

After a while of walking outside the school, Clyde notices a small abandoned warehouse that he recognizes, this was the warehouse that used to organize daily products for the town until it was close due to bankruptcy.

The boy figured this could be a quiet place to clear his mind off from today's drama as he approaches the warehouse and to his surprise, the front doors were unlocked as he entered the bright deserted warehouse.

Clyde looked around the abandoned building before sitting down near one of the chairs in the break room and had his lunch to himself.

It's times like this that the bullied teenager wishes he was born in a different place and to a different family, one that was loving and alive. He even wishes that his own parents were still alive instead of Kenny.

Whilst miserably eating his lunch, Clyde looks at an old photo of himself as a toddler with his mother and father by his side, how Clyde would give anything to bring them back. Clyde almost started to cry but he promised himself that he wouldn't cry since his stepfather told him that crying was for the weak and it annoys Kenny to see Clyde cry at times.

But every day since he lost his parents, he kept wishing that things will be better and life for him will be better; but even he knows that's a lie. The bullies will never stop trampling on him, his uncle/stepfather will never love him or stop hurting him and treating him like a dirt, and there will be nothing for Clyde after high school except to be trapped in his own home, under Kenny's cruel rule.

He promised his mother before she died that he'll be strong for her and Clyde's father but as the years go by, he slowly feels weaker and useless that he has literally accepted to be doomed to live this unfortunate life till the day he dies...

Clyde's depressing thoughts cease when he suddenly spots a glowing red light ahead of him at the end of the building. He almost wanted to walk back to the school before the last period started, but curiosity causes Clyde to wander towards the glowing light.

The boy then sees the light ending in a square-shaped platform until he manages to look around and sees a poster swaying within the wind from the holes of the abandoned building; he rips it off to see a small loose brick, then takes it off to see a small button implanted on the wall.

The boy curiously pressed the button when suddenly he heard a small noise behind him, he turned to see a platform being pulled away from the floor to reveal stairs going down below the warehouse. Clyde cautiously makes his way down the stairs and sees an open metal door with a slow flashing red light on top of the door.

"What is this place?" Clyde gasped.

He enters through the metal door and looks around to see a messy laboratory where everything looks like it has been abandoned for some time. Suddenly Clyde notices a strange-looking formula vial inside one of the desks before he picks it up and reads the label: "The future of mankind"

"The future of mankind? What does that mean?" Clyde asked himself.

All of a sudden, the lights went off in an instant as Clyde jumped a bit, dropping the vial as it smashed to pieces. In a panic, Clyde turns to rush out but trips on a couple of chairs before he falls back and his right hand smacks on the broken shards of the vial. The boy cried out in agony as he painfully removed the shards out of the deep cuts from his hand, unaware that the strange liquid was on his injured hand.
