Midnight | Levi Ackerman

Chapter 4

"WATCH out!" Levi shouts while grabbing me and throwing us to the ground, rolling over on the marble floor.

My back instantly feels tense and I groan, uncomfortably. The titan's orbs connect with mine, staring me down. I gulp, ready to run away from the fight.

But then I remember Eren being taken away, and I will do anything for that little twerp.

Using all of the strength I had left to get up, Levi attempts to shelter me away but I shove his hands away.

"No, I am going to fight. What do I need to do?" At the time, gnomes and other humans are doing everything to contain the titan. Around their waists and torsos was a sort of device that allowed them to maneuver in the air.

I point toward it. "Look, Levi. I need that."

My best friend gives me an exasperated look. I know he doesn't want me to do this, but he agrees. As the titan runs around and makes the castle into rubble and dust, Levi brings me down to the cellar level. I rapidly spot the device.

He helps me put it on. "This is called omni-directional mobility gear. You need this," he attaches some gas tanks. "These are refills. Some hooks will attach to things when it is aimed correctly. You can attach yourself to the Titans. Balance is important. Don't fall off. I will be watching you."

Noted.

"You need this, too," he hands me the handle of a sword. "You will need to rely on this in the meantime. You need to be crowned before you get your weapon. For now, there are extra blades attached to the ODM gear in the event your blades become too dull."

"Don't move," he gets down on one knee. My eyes widen a bit when his hands carefully fix the strap around my thighs. "You should feel secure now."

"Thank you, Levi," I whisper.

He nods his head, his eyes showing no emotion but his eyebrows are furrowed. "Tch, it's nothing. I know you will still fight for your brother regardless. Look," he points to the crumbling of stone that is occurring by the stairwell. "This is our cue before we get trapped here. Let's get moving."

"Copy," I comment.

"You also have some of the powers passed down to you. You can use it but don't use it too much. You can pass out since you're not trained to use it properly," he states as he suddenly grabs my hand and starts rushing out of the stairwell.

When we are on the surface, it is a bloody and chaotic scene. "That's the Female Titan," Levi states. "From what I see, she's an experienced fighter."

He squeezes my hand. "I'll be right here with you. Be careful." Then he is gone.

I spot in the corner of my eye a woman with brown hair flying around with the gear. I observe how she uses it, and decide to replicate it myself once I exhale a deep breath I am holding in.

Launching myself into the air, the hook rapidly attaches itself to a wall of the castle. The soldier looks at me. "Your Highness! I am Cadet Sasha Braun, at your service!" She quickly attaches herself and flies towards me. "How did you learn so quickly?"

Looking around the room, I see Levi fighting hard against the Female Titan. He is wielding his sword in such an artistic manner as he pulls away, doing his best to not get his cables caught in the hands' of the creature.

"Levi taught me. You can call me Y/N. No formalities. How do we kill this thing?" I question quickly. There was no time to chit-chat.

"Right! You need to slice them here," With her own hands, she gestures towards the nape of the neck. "Cut deep enough. The one is intelligent and is one of the nine Founding Titans. Be alert."

I thanked her for the quick information and quickly got the blade in the handle. I rapidly detach myself from the wall and maneuver around to get used to the velocity. I spot Levi, who is angrily slicing the Female Titan. She screams out in pain when blood begins to come out of her body. In response, she reaches for Levi's cables.

"Don't touch him!" I quickly latch myself somewhere and as I am speeding through the air, I slice off a couple of her fingers. She screeches and makes me her target. I point my finger at her eye, quickly blinding her as I attempt to lead her to a place away from the castle and population.

The snow begins to hit me, and it's a bit difficult to see. The stars can only provide enough light in the woodlands. Yet, I can hear her footsteps and her running towards me quickly. I can only move so fast until I feel myself falling to the ground. I get caught by Sasha and turn around to see Levi slicing the Female Titan up. He is incredibly fast and I cannot catch sight of him for the majority of the time. She attempts to attack him but out of nowhere, spears come in all around, tying her up.

Levi, now covered in the blood of the Female Titan, walks up her body to get to her nape. I zip to him.

"Stand back," he warns. I decide to stay back on the ground where Sasha is and in the flash of lightning, Levi cuts into her nape. But something is off.

The Titan begins to disintegrate and soldiers, along with authority figures, go up to him. Curious, I walk and hop onto the body of the fallen Titan.

I reach Levi and look into the cavern where the smoke was rising from. Inside is a woman encapsulated by crystal.

"Is she... human?" I question. Levi nodded and looked around the audience. He spies a man who is quickly taking notes, a scientist of some sort.

"Moblit, get your superior in here," he gets up from his kneeling position and hands me his sword. "Y/N, stay here with Historia. I will do the rest."

Worried, I stopped him from going anywhere. "Are you okay?" I ask him.

His stern look softens when he looks back at me. "Yes, I am. Are you okay?"

"I am."

He pulls away from me and descends from the body. Historia, latching onto a crown of some sort, finds me.

"Oh, Your Highness. You are such bravery manifested in a human, along with Prince Levi. Come on, let's get you crowned," she comments. I follow her back to where the castle once used to stand and quietly look at all the corpses of individuals who sacrificed their lives.

I don't know much about this ancient world, but I will do anything to protect the lives here as long as I get my brother back.
