The sun had long set, and the stars shone bright above the quiet landscape of Miracle House. The bus carrying the Shanbrook students was now nothing more than a distant memory. The laughter, the music, the excitement of the past week seemed like an echo fading into the night.
Sisonke stood alone in the courtyard, gazing up at the stars, feeling the emptiness that the departure of the students had left behind. It was as if the light had dimmed just a little, the energy and love they had brought with them now gone. He closed his eyes, trying to hold onto the feelings, the joy, the connection—wondering when he would feel that way again.
Her face flashed in his mind—the soft smile, the way her eyes always seemed to understand him, even without words. The gifts she had given him, the encouragement, the belief that he was capable of more than he had ever imagined. Emma's departure had left a hole, one he couldn't ignore.
But the memories of their time together, the way she had believed in him, gave him strength. Her last words to him echoed in his heart, as if she were still there beside him:
"You are stronger than you think. And you're never alone."
He took a deep breath, feeling a sense of resolve settle in his chest. Emma had left, but her spirit—the encouragement she had given him, the way she had made him feel seen—would stay with him forever. She had given him something he had never had before: hope in himself.
