The Treehouse Dimension

3rd person P.O.V

The forest floor was covered in snow, the leaves on the trees had fallen off during the fall, and the sunlight made the whole place sparkle. A girl ran between the trees, her snow boots crunching against the snow as she panted, looking behind her, her expression seemed like she was being chased.

She was only about 9, and apart from the shoes didn't have any cold gear on, just some jeans and a light purple shirt with butterflies on it. The girl had long dark brown hair that went past her shoulders and light purple eyes.

The girl tripped on a twig lying on the forest floor, faceplanting into the snow. She let out a small 'oof' and stood up, wiping the snow off her face. The girl looked around and noticed a bush, full of juicy raspberries ready for the picking. Her eyes lit up. She quickly ran over to it and kneeled down as she started taking some of the berries in hand.

The whole forest went dead silently, an eerie wind blowing through the snowy trees. The girl froze, a presence forming behind her as a shadow covered her body. The dog gulped quietly, slowly turning around before the figure pounced on her. "AHH-"

"GOTCHA!!!" The male dog exclaimed, his hazel eyes sparkling in the light as it reflected off the snow, holding the smaller dog in his arms as he tickled her. The girl was in a laughing fit, unable to string a sentence together. "H-Hey!!! S-Stop!!!"

The male pup chuckled a bit and let go, the girl stumbling forward a bit but keeping her balance, laughing as she tried to catch her breath. He spotted the bushel of raspberries from the corner of his eye, slyly grabbing a few. "Oh what's this~?" "Hey! Give me that!" The female dog protested playfully, reaching for the berries, "Those are mine!!!" The other dog smirked and held a handful above her head. "Nuh-uh~"

"LAVENDER!!! DIEGO!!! BACK INSIDE!!!" A booming voice shouted through the woodlands, coming from the cabin the two were staying in. "Coming, dad!!!" The girl called back. "¡¡En camino, tío Hew!!" Diego yelled, standing up as Lavender looked at him with her eyebrow raised. "Can you please just speak English?" "Can you just learn Spanish, Ms. Know-it-all?" Diego teased, starting to walk off with his cousin following annoyedly.

Years later, Lavender sat on the edge of a building, the moon's light glowing down on the city. The lab let out a silent sigh, staring up at the stars with a look of sadness. The door that led up to the roof opened, creaking as a blue jay walked out. "This thing could use a serious oil." The bird mumbled, his tone and expression cold before looking up and spotting Lavender, his gaze going soft and confused.

The bird paused for a moment before whistling a playful tune, walking over with his arms behind his back. The dog rolled her eyes to the side, the blue jay grabbing onto a pole next to her and spinning around on it. "Sooo whatcha up to, Lav?" He asked with a flirty smirk on his face, leaning over and looking down at her. "What do you want, Jack?" She asked in a sorrowful tone.

Jack's eyes widened and he went silent, letting out a gentle sigh and sitting down next to her. "...Something on your mind?" "Since when do you care about how I feel?" Lavender asked, glaring daggers into the bird's soul. "...You didn't answer my question." "...Yes. There's something on my mind." "What is it?" The Labrador looked over at him with an exasperated look. "Wow, blunt tonight, are we?"

"Hardy har har." Jack smiled, chuckling lightly as he nudged her shoulder, "Now... c'mon." "It's just-... Do you ever stop to think about the fact that we're just... KIDS! And- some of us have been through a WAR!! Or fought big supervillains for most of our lives! And... the kid... Savage... he can be no older than 10, and... something just seems off with him..." Her breath started getting shaky, wiping away tears before they could fully form, taking a deep breath as her body leaned back, "The look in his eyes just seemed familiar is all... and it got me thinking about some stuff."

The bird stared at her for a long moment, the wind blowing past, the dog's purple eyes shining in the light as she looked off to the horizon. Jack blushed a little before clearing his throat and standing up, grabbing Lavender's hands and pulling her up onto her feet with him, "Hey, c'mere." "Wha-"

The two of them now stood on the edge of the building, one wrong move and they could easily fall onto the street below, the moonlight beaming down on them. "I know you hate me, but you're better than this, ok?" He said with a calming voice as Lavender got onto her feet, glaring at him with displeasure, "While I agree that it's messed up... I also think you and the others are the only ones that can fight... You help people, you're strong, and you're braver than full-grown, dick-ass men! People need you, Lavender. And that's not a responsibility a kid should have... but you're great at it." "...Such wise words of wisdom from the all mighty blueberry." Lavender replied sarcastically.

Jack brushed it off and smirked, playing along, "I know, I'm amazing." The girl rolled her eyes and scoffed quietly, Jack still holding onto her hands as she glanced down at them. "Now let's go inside. It's freezing out here!!!" The blue bird exclaimed dramatically, beginning to walk back over to the door still holding her hand as Lavender chuckled, "Oh, I'm glad you find my suffering amusing." "Awe, come on, let me have my fun." "I'll let you have fun once we get inside and you smell the amazing fresh pasta and stuffed peppers I have prepared!" Lavender let out a little chuckle as she and Jack walked inside the door leading down to the rest of the building. "Deal."
