TW: Injury detail

You watched the stands begin to slowly fill with excited students, each one dressed in bright colours and waving banners. The wind whipped through your hair as you leaned against your broom, feeling the cool air cut through your Quidditch gear. The stadium hummed with energy, voices growing louder as students and teachers exchanged bets, shouted good lucks, and bickered over who was the superior team.

Your own team stood scattered around the room, some drinking water, others running through the playbook in their heads, each one determined to beat Hufflepuff. Your heart thudded quietly in your chest, your gaze flickering over the yellow and black blobs dotting the distant pitch.

A voice broke your focus, and you looked up to see the newest chaser on your team approaching you. He was short—about a foot shorter than you—and had messy brown hair that stuck out at odd angles. His eyes were wide, his grip on his broom tight enough that his knuckles had turned white. You were pretty sure his name was Micheal.

"Nervous for your first match?" you asked gently, smiling at him as he stood awkwardly in front of you.

He nodded quickly, his gaze darting around the bustling crowds. "A little," he admitted, voice shaky.

You chuckled softly. "Don't worry. When you're in the air, you forget all about the crowd. Just remember to breathe." You gave him a reassuring pat on the shoulder.

"Thanks," he whispered, though he still seemed visibly nervous. He lingered beside you for a moment, sneaking a few hesitant glances in your direction. After the fifth one, you turned back to him, brow furrowing slightly.

"Are you okay?" you asked, this time more directly.

He smiled weakly, his face flushed with embarrassment. "Sorry... it's just... you're Fred's girlfriend, right?"

"Huh?" The question took you by surprise, and you let out an unintentional owl-like hoot. You shook your head, pushing your thick braid over your shoulder. "I'm not his girlfriend, no. We're friends. Well, we were... I think we still are," you mumbled, your voice trailing off. You glanced at him, still unsure where he was going with this.

Your teammates began to line up next to you, taking their positions, and Octavia nudged you with a knowing look. "Remember, you're sticking with Cho the whole time. Protect our Seeker—Dublin will handle the bludgers that aim for anyone else."

You grinned and nodded, eyes flicking back to the new chaser. "I remember, Tavs. Hard to forget when you've reminded me about sixteen times," you teased. She gave you a quick grin before turning her attention back to the pitch, where Madam Hooch had just stepped out onto the field.

With only a few moments before the match, you turned back to the boy beside you. "Why'd you ask?" you whispered, leaning closer.

His eyes widened, and his face flushed even deeper. "Oh, well, my sister pointed you out to me the other day. Said you were Fred's girlfriend or something."

Before you could respond, Octavia's voice rang out, cutting through the wind. "Ready for kick-off in one minute, team!"

You nodded absently, your mind still racing. "Who's your sister?"

"Maria Williams. She's a Gryffindor in your year," he stammered, his voice barely audible over the wind. Now you were more confused than ever.

"What? Why would she say that? She's his girlfriend."

"Thirty seconds, team!" Octavia's call was urgent.

The boy shook his head quickly. "No, she's not."

Your fingers tapped your bat impatiently and you frowned. "Yeah, she is. I saw them on a date last week."
