As the two arrived at Sunwoo's house, they made their way straight to his room. Sohee, still feeling a mix of exhaustion and confusion, opened the door and froze for a moment. The room was decorated in a way she didn't expect: streamers, balloons, and even a small banner that read, Congratulations on the job!
Sohee turned around, eyebrows raised. "Did you have a party in here or what?" she asked, a little thrown off by the unexpected gesture.
Sunwoo leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, and gave her a sheepish look. "I may or may not have asked Sangyeon and Jacob to sneak in and decorate while we were at school," he admitted, scratching the back of his neck. He avoided her gaze, looking almost nervous, like he wasn't sure how she would react. "I thought it'd be a nice surprise."
For a moment, Sohee stood there, trying to process what he had done. She hadn't expected anything like this at all. She had barely registered that she'd even earned a reason to celebrate, let alone a surprise like this.
Then, without thinking, she launched herself into his arms, catching him off guard. He stumbled back slightly, but his arms instinctively wrapped around her, holding her tight.
"Thank you," Sohee murmured into his chest, her voice quiet but full of gratitude. She didn't know what else to say. The surprise, the thoughtfulness behind it, was more than she had expected from anyone, let alone Sunwoo.
Sunwoo let out a small, surprised laugh, his arms still around her. "You're welcome, Sohee," he said softly, his voice warm. "I just thought you deserved to feel good about today."
She pulled back slightly to look up at him, her face flushing a little, but she couldn't help but smile. His smile was the kind that made everything feel a little easier, and for the first time in a while, Sohee felt like she could breathe again.
"Now, let's actually watch that movie," Sunwoo said with a grin, nudging her toward the bed where a pile of snacks and blankets had been neatly arranged, as if he'd been preparing for a cozy night all along. "Oh, and there's sweatpants and a T-shirt on my dresser if you want to change. I know you're probably uncomfortable in that skirt," he added with a chuckle, watching her squirm as she tried to find a comfortable position on his bed.
Sohee shot him an exasperated look, her skirt twisting awkwardly around her as she attempted to sit cross-legged. "You're not wrong," she muttered, clearly struggling.
"Go change," Sunwoo said, his grin widening. "You'll be much more comfortable."
Reluctantly, Sohee got up, heading toward the dresser where Sunwoo had laid out the clothes. As she changed into the comfy clothes, she couldn't help but smile to herself. Even something as small as this—his thoughtfulness—made the weight of everything else feel a little lighter.
When she returned, Sunwoo had already flopped down onto the bed, looking relaxed, and patted the spot beside him. Sohee, now in the sweatpants and oversized T-shirt, sat down next to him, finally feeling a sense of ease wash over her.
