“I was laying a white rose on top of her coffin, and the sun was shining... Aunt Beth would’ve loved the irony.”

Satine burst into tears. She had relived her aunt’s funeral over and over. Her throat tightened. Her face felt like it was burning.

Dr. Furns spoke quietly. “Satine, you do know that I was your aunt’s therapist, correct?”

Satine nodded, unable to speak past her constricting throat.

“I think you should know that she was clinically depressed. She was at high risk for suicide. I know you don’t want to hear this, but the Beth you know was mentally sick.”

Satine’s eyes widened. “No…No...No…” She whispered it like a mantra. “You’re wrong. Aunt Beth was never depressed. How would you know? You never visited her. You didn’t come to her funeral.” Satine’s voice got louder. “You never loved her like I did!”

Satine ran out of the office all the way to her room. Locking the door, she climbed on top of her bed and cried into her pillow. Her first day here, and she already wanted to leave. Dr. Furns was an asshole.

Satine woke up and looked at the clock on her nightstand. 5:30 P.M. Her head hurt from crying. She went into the bathroom and splashed water on her face. She then decided to go to Dr. Furns.

It never occurred to her that she could leave. Friend of her aunt’s or not, Satine wouldn’t put up with him. He would not disrespect her aunt that way.

She was walking down the stairs and was totally zoned out when she fell over on her ass.

“Whoa! I’m sorry! You’re Satine LeFay, right?”

Satine looked up at a guy with golden blonde hair, his eyes sparkling with concern. He helped her to her feet as she nodded.

“Are you okay? My name is Castiel. I work for Dr. Furns.”

“Y-yea...”

Suddenly, Satine didn’t want to leave.

“Are you sure? You looked pissed.”

Satine smiled. “I was, but I’m not anymore.”

Castiel smiled back at her. “Are you looking for Dr. Furns?”

“No, but I would like to explore the mansion some more. Do you think Dr. Furns would mind?”

“No. Here, I’ll give you a tour. Follow me.” Castiel grabbed her hand.

Satine smiled. This was getting better and better by the minute.
