“It is possible. Having a relative with the illness increases your chances. That is another reason I invited you here. I wanted to make sure you were okay. It’s important that you don’t lose control because of your aunt’s death. It could cause you to have a schizophrenic episode.”

Satine sank down slowly into a chair in front of his desk.

“H-how long have you known that I’ve had it?”

“Satine, that is hard to say. I suspected it a few weeks ago from your emails, but I wanted to make sure. I don’t want you living by yourself for awhile. I’ll tell you more when I finish my diagnosis. That’s for later. You must be starving! Did you ever eat lunch?”

Satine shook her head.

“Then let’s go eat. My kitchen staff usually serves dinner at this time.”

They went into the dining area. The smell of pasta wafted out. Satine inhaled deeply. Tomato sauce. Mmmmm….

Once seated, the workers served them big plates of some pasta that Satine couldn’t name. It didn’t matter. It tasted heavenly. She was in mid-chew when Castiel arrived.

Dr. Furns cleared his throat. “Satine, have you met my cousin?”

“Yes, he showed me your garden. It is beautiful.”

“Ah, yes. Castiel does all of the heavy garden work around here. He’s got quite the green thumb.”

Castiel said nothing, but he smiled when he looked at Satine.

She wondered why he was being so quiet.

They all ate in silence, with some small talk here and there. Satine felt awkward. Neither man was ever quiet when Satine talked to them alone. As Satine focused back on the men, she realized they were deep in conversation, smiling and laughing. Was the cold silence all in her mind?

Satine conversed with the two men all night. They discussed her plans for finishing college, while Dr. Furns kept quiet about her mental issues. They socialized into the night, and Satine started to feel drained.  She could only socialize for so long until she needed time alone to recharge.

Her head felt light, yet heavy. Was the room spinning, or was she? Satine couldn’t tell. She drank deeply of her sweet tea. This made it worse. Coughing uncontrollably, Satine stood up out of her chair and collapsed onto the dining room floor.
