The next day at college, I found myself keeping an eye out for Mia. She had this spark, this confidence that just made her stand out, and I knew she'd be perfect for Daniel. They'd hit it off last night, and I couldn't stop smiling at the thought of them together. Mia and Daniel—now that would be a power couple.

I spotted Mia near the cafeteria, talking to a few people from her class. She looked radiant, not a single trace of last night's drinks on her. Impressive, really. I walked over and nudged her shoulder.

"Hey, superstar," I said with a grin. "Recovered from last night?"

Mia laughed, flipping her hair back. "I don't even remember half of it, honestly. I'm just glad I didn't say anything too embarrassing."

"Embarrassing? Please. You were perfect. And Daniel was such a gentleman, driving you home and everything." I gave her a playful nudge. "So, any thoughts on him?"

She laughed, looking away, but I caught a hint of a blush on her cheeks. "He's nice... really nice, actually."

"Nice? That's it?" I teased, arching an eyebrow. "Come on, Mia. Daniel's more than 'nice.' The guy's a catch."

Mia shrugged, a small smile playing on her lips. "Well, maybe. He is pretty great, I guess."

As she said it, I couldn't help but notice Sophie across the hallway, chatting with Alan. Just seeing her irked me. She was always so... self-righteous, like she thought she was the glue holding this friend group together. But she didn't see how good Daniel and Mia could be together. She was just too wrapped up in her own little world.

"Anyway," I said, steering Mia away from Sophie's line of sight, "we're grabbing coffee later, right? I need to hear all the details of this budding romance with Daniel."

Mia giggled, nodding. "Definitely. And maybe you can give me a few tips—seems like you know him pretty well."

"Trust me, I'll help however I can," I promised, already plotting ways to keep Sophie out of the picture. This was Mia's chance, and there was no way I'd let someone like Sophie ruin it.
