The warmth of the summer air filled the room as 17-year-old Y/N opened his window. Summer vacations were just around the corner, just a few more hours and they'd have officially begun, and with them, his eighteenth birthday.

He wasn't completely sure what to do with all this time in his hand, especially since his best (and only) friend, Ben Tennyson, fell sick just a week before the last day of class. Y/N thought he was lucky, he could skip right to the good stuff, but as time passed by he started to realize that he wasn't getting any better.

"I should call him. See if everything is alright," Y/N muttered his own thoughts, "He isn't the type to get sick, let alone this much."

Y/N reached for his phone. It wasn't the newest model, but it was better than whatever crap he had last year. He unlocked it and, for better or for worse, fell dazed with his phone wallpaper; stared at it for longer than he intended. Before he noticed, a whole minute had passed.

Y/N shook his head as he returns to his senses, before going to Ben's contact. "Alright, he's online, that's a start." Y/N wasn't exactly one to worry about others, even Ben. Ben had proved himself that he was more than capable to look after himself... well, as long as bullies aren't involved anyways. Thankfully, unless you consider viruses to be microscopic bullies, they weren't.

He pressed on the call button, and impatiently tapped his fingers on the phone case as he waited for him to answer.

"Aw, hey, Y/N. Perfect timing..." Ben said over the phone. He sounded weak, his voice far more nasal than Y/N could ever expect. This cold wasn't that messed up, was it? "I was about to call you."

"Uh... why?" Y/N answered, still occasionally tapping his phone case. Ben wasn't one to call first, so he knew something was up. "Is everything okay in there?"

"Oh, yeah, yeah. Y'know, besides the-" Ben sneezed right at the phone, the frequency of the sneeze was intensified through Y/N's busted speakers, it almost made him jump. "That..."

Y/N faked a mocking laughter at Ben's prank. At least he was healthy enough to pull pranks on him. "Real funny, Ben. Is that why you wanted to call me?"

"No, no, no. Of course not..." Ben tried to contain a laugh, but a weak chuckle escaped his lips. "Well, yeah, but there's something else. My grandpa Max was planning to take me and my cousin to a field trip, but uh... I don't think I'm in conditions to show up."

"So?" Y/N replied dryly.

"Sooo, I want you to go in there instead of me, your grandpa was friends with him after all, right?" Ben proposed, his voice still groggly. "Besides, my cousin is a dweeb, I don't wanna spend all summer with her when I got Sumo Slammers at my fingertips."

Y/N wanted to object, but it's not like he had anything else to do. And besides, he liked Max, spending a summer with him didn't sound too bad, especially after... the incident. Just thinking of it made his skin pale. He could use a bit of sunlight, too. "Fine, but you owe me."

"Owe you?" Ben denied all accountability, before sighing. "Fine, guess I do... Let me know what you want once you come back from the trip. They'll be there tomorrow morning."

"It's a date." With that, Y/N hung up the phone. He threw it to his bed without looking, the phone rapidly spinning until it hit the soft bed sheets in his peripheral vision. Nailed it.

Now all he had to do was to pack things up, which, uh... did he really have that many stuff to pack? I mean, his valuables consist of his phone and little else... Clothes, obviously, but there wasn't much besides that. He walked up to his trusty backpack from school, and put as much clothes as he deemed necessary there and called it a day. What's the worst that could happen?

He was practically fighting with his need to sleep anyways, he could fall asleep even if he stood fully upright. Y/N stumbled to bed and let himself fall on it, falling asleep almost immediately.

Y/N woke up to the incessant sound of a certain RV's honking, almost too loud for him to bear. He looked outside his mirror, seeing the Rustbucket, Max Tennyson's signature car... and also home. He had only heard of this thing from stories, and seeing it right there, parked outside his home and calling to him, it felt like adventure was calling him. He grabbed his backpack from between his legs, and zoomed into the Rustbucket.

He wasn't even sure if he locked the door to his home, all he wanted to do was to be there. Have an adventure of a lifetime.

And, oh boy, was he about to...
