Chapter 8 - From a Shining Star, With Love

Somewhere in the Countryside...

A bright streak of light blazed across the night sky before crashing into the earth, shaking the ground and making nearby dogs howl and bark furiously. Startled by the commotion, a woman burst out of her house, holding a shotgun.

Woman: What? What's going on?

Her eyes widened as she took in the wall of fire before her. Within it, a shadowed figure moved.

Woman: Who's there?

The flames parted, revealing a man stepping through, his eyes glimmering like stars and a strange, otherworldly suit adorning his frame.

???: Isn't this Japan?

Woman: Japan? If you're looking for Japan, it's over that way.

???: I've crashed in the wrong place.

Before she could respond, he vanished from sight, reappearing an instant later just inches away from her, causing her to gasp and step back.

???: Thank you. You have beautiful freckles.

Stunned and blushing slightly at the unexpected compliment, she could only watch as he leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. When she jumped back, eyes wide, he was already soaring into the sky, a streak of light trailing behind him.

Woman: Who was that?

Meanwhile...

Ryuto, Rito, and Lala were walking to school, Rito, however, couldn't stop sneezing.

Lala: Huh? What's the matter, Rito?

Rito: I wonder... I have no idea.

Ryuto: Maybe it's your bad luck sneezing in to say good morning.

As they continued walking, a faint, whistling sound grew louder, catching their attention. The trio paused and turned their heads skyward. Something, or someone, was streaking toward them, leaving a trail of light in its wake. Their eyes widened in shock as the figure rapidly approached.

The figure hurtled closer at incredible speed. Just when it seemed like he would crash into them, he angled sharply, soaring back into the sky.

Ryuto: What was that?

Lala: Oh, it's nothing. Let's go, you two! We don't want to be late.

In the middle of the Ocean...

The mysterious figure crashed down with a thunderous impact on the deck of a large military ship. A female soldier stepped forward and aimed her gun at the man.

Female Soldier: Don't move!

The man turned his head towards her, a broad smile spreading across his face as if he recognized her.

???: Lala!

He stepped forward eagerly, mistaking the soldier for someone else. Startled, she maintained her aim, but two more soldiers appeared from behind her, rifles trained on the man. The soldiers opened fire, but to their astonishment, every bullet ricocheted harmlessly off his suit, clinking to the ground without leaving so much as a scratch.

The man suddenly propelled himself skyward, leaving behind a trail of light and a stunned, silent deck.

Meanwhile...

Ryuto, Rito, and Lala walked down the school hallway. Ryuto glanced at Rito, who was sneezing repeatedly.

Ryuto: You alright, Rito? You look like you're about to fall over.
