We had returned back home hours ago, he retired to his room giving off murderous vibes with a smirk on his face.
While I stood backing his door, swallowing a gulp. I so much wanted to tell him but wallahi it was so hard. Don't get your hopes up, I wanted to ask him if I could go to... School.
As in, I got admission into MAAUN.
( Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria ) — Kano state.

It had always been my dream and here it was right in front of me, it all depended on the man's decision.

I knocked nervously at the door after remembering myself he didn't have horns.
He opened grumpily and I closed my eyes immediately, the fool was just wearing a white vest.

" Say what you want to and get out! " he said, not acknowledging the fact that my cheeks were crimson red and my insides turning.

" If you're not saying anything please... Get out. " Ugh! He really loved the word Get out.

" No, No, I'll speak. " I said and heaved a sigh. Here I go.

" I want to go to school, I've already gotten admission into MAAUN, and it has always been my dream to... "

" No! "

" What? " I asked, hoping he meant something else but I was fully sure he meant me.

" Yes. You're not going to any school as far as you stay under this roof. "

" but why? I promise I'll... "

" Enough! Leave. "

" but Khaleefah I... " before I could finfish my statement, he fiercely grabbed my jaw, while I winced in pain.

" Never in your life call me by my name, even maids respect me not to talk of a piece of trash like you. Get lost. " he pushed me so hard I fell to the floor and he slammed the door indifferently.

My hands involuntarily found their way around my jaw, which was sore.
I rested my hands on the pillar and slowly got up limping to my room, and felt flat on it.

I tried not to, but believe me it didn't work, the tears rolled dangerously down my cheeks and they turned into light sobs.

I left Amjad for this. I broke ties with my brother for this, this terrible human being. I will never have what I lost and why? I gave them up for this terrible human being.

My phone rang and it brought a smile to my teary face, it was Teemah calling on Face time.

" AsSalamunAlaykum Umm Abdullah. " I said and she heaved a sigh.

" Wa Alaykum salam and stop calling me Umm as if I'm old. " she said struggling with her baby' Abdullah.
He looked exactly like his father but had his mother's long lashes and large eyes.

" Abdullah... How're you? " he ranted on God knows what over the phone and closed the laptop but Teemah quickly opened it.

" Abdullah, how many times do I have to tell you to behave! " she said raising her voice a bit and he burst into tears.
She grabbed him and began to coax him.

It made me smile genuinely till I got fixed to marry Khaleefah, but then I was sad. Sad that if I was still married to Khaleefah I may never experience the joy of motherhood, he didn't consider me human let alone his wife.

" Humayra! " Teemah called for what seemed to be the nth time.
" Yeah? " I answered quietly, slowly understanding my environment.

" Where are you lost? Thinking about Khaleefah? "
Although it seemed weird but I actually was thinking about him but not even close to the way she thought, so I just answered with a smile.

" Marriage isn't easy Humayra. " she began putting Abdullah on her lap.

" It's a long ride, especially for people like you. I mean it was arranged, and you aren't mentally ready for it. " she said the way a mother would.

" but you have to understand it's not a one person thing, it's about him too. Understand him, care for him, want the best for him. You son have to love him just yet, but clear the air between both of you and understand each other. "

I was already crying by now.

" Now why are you crying? " she asked with great concern, she was like a mother and an elder sister for me, two people I had but never felt their positive presence in my life.

" I'm just thankful for having a friend like you. "

" Anytime, and if you... " Abdullah's sudden cry cut her off.

" We'll talk later, I think he's hungry. "

" Well, bye. " I said and she smiled.
" Bye " before ending the call.

People like Teemah, where the few people I still had close to my heart in these times, that didn't ignore me.

My WhatsApp notification alerted me and I knew who it was before checking. Amjad.

He was broken, sad, he still loved me, but tried to forget me but it was hard for him.

He kept sending congratulatory messages to me in a mocking tone and believed me I was getting pissed.

I knew I was wrong, but what gave him the right to text me like that, I tapped on it and read the message.

" I hope you're happy ruining my life Humayra, I loved you, but you used me and dumped me like a piece of trash. If you didn't, you'd have just said it. "

I angrily called him and he answered on the first dial.

" I knew I was unfair to you Amjad but it doesn't give you the right to talk to me like that, for Allah's sake I am a married woman and you should know your boundaries. "

He made a short clap and spoke.

" Wow Humayra, that was so beautiful, thank you for showing me your true side... Married woman? I can swear if he knew the terrible person you where he wouldn't have agreed, you suicidal psycho. He doesn't love you, and will never love you, that's a fact, something you should know "

His words hurt me like shards of glass but I wasn't going to breakdown in front of any person, not even Amjad.

" And who told you he doesn't love me? My husband loves me to bits and even if he didn't what is your business? I have my handsome, perfect, powerful Prince Khaleefah, if you're so jealous find yourself a wife. " I said and ended the call falling back to my bed and my heart ached, it was too much for me.

My door opened and it was none other than my husband, he brought out an envelope and threw it over my face then said

" You resume tomorrow. "

My heart did a flip, what and what did he hear?
