"Long ago, when our home was young, half the tribe held magic in their hands. Some healed wounds, and some could conceal their bodies completely from view, but whatever they did, the other half would always be bitter and spiteful. You see, the second half were ordinary villagers, they couldn't heal wounds, and they would always be seen by others. And so they were resentful. So they met secretly and trained with swords, spears, and bows. Until they were lions in battle. Then one terrible day, they attacked. The magic users were overwhelmed by the number of villagers -they thought they were friends- with swinging swords, piercing spears, and flying arrows. Sadly, only three magic users escaped. They hid and waited until the battle was over, watching their friends fall, their magic doing little against the strength of the endlessly flashing metal teeth. After the battle, they came into the village and said, 'We have watched our friends and foes fall, for our foolishness and selfishness, we will surrender our magic.'
"In one final flourish, they created a golden sphere, 'This will create a shield that will protect our young ones and elders. We have atoned for our sins. No longer will we have magic. No longer will we be foolish. No longer will we be selfish.' they said. And the sphere has protected our village ever since. No storms have gotten in. No one on any planet can invade. As long as the sphere is safe we are safe." Elder Iris finished.
"But of course, magic doesn't exist anymore!" Elder Theo butted in.
"No, it still does exist, you just have to look for it within yourself." Elder Iris continued, "Like in this little one."
She ruffled a little girl's hair. "Cassandra, you must find your light inside and strengthen it."
